I still think there's something to be said about the radar/instrument-induced plasma clouds or whatever they are. Tracing a path over a surface (or ocean, or against clouds, etc) would have a very fast apparant speed (like the old trick of sweeping a laser pointer over the surface of Jupiter, the point can apparently sweep faster than light!), and the supposed tictac was exactly at a specific coordinate that only the Navy knew suggests it was some phenomenon that was induced by the ships somehow.

Anyway, my friend Boltach raised his weapon and fired. He hit the being in the head with a short controlled burst. A brilliant blue syrupy fluid splattered the trees behind the alien. Just then we saw a dull light in the sky. Back then, we had a device called a Starlight scope. Only special operations had them. It is a lot like night vision. I focused in on the light in the sky and at that moment two more lights appeared. They formed the shape of a perfect triangle. The light at the top circled the two below in a figure 8 and zipped off. The remaining two seemed to collide and both zip off in the same direction as the first light. That night two other LRRP teams in our AO (area of operations)reported in the same activities. We called into HQ and they said they were having radio problems and would be offline for the rest of the night. We linked up with the other 2 teams for security reasons and shared our encounter with them. 4 of the other men with me on my team that night were later killed in various engagements in the war and I haven't been able to get in contact with anyone from the other teams. Only me and Levin are still around. I hope you can come up with other stories and vets who have reporting UFOs in the Nam. It has been reported in a range of colors, disappears when it hits things, goes through things like they're not there, dissipates suddenly and silently, explodes violently, leaves a smell, doesn't leave a smell, etc. There's probably variety in the reporting because witnesses aren't primed and ready to take in all the details of a bizarre thing that happens all the sudden, just like with birds, but there's also probably a variety of ball lightnings. Balls lightning. Anyway I think foo fighters were ball lightning created by practically non-replicable conditions of the aerial battles where pilots witnessed them. Or aliens watching human airplane fights

Actually I think you could. Use Fravor's estimate of the size of the tic-tac and assume that what we see on FLIR1 is the same tic-tac. That other fighter pilot who has been doing UFO / navy fighter review videos on youtube at one point I think explains the angular sizes of the different zoom modes in FLIR (I think in the video where he examines the motion of gimbal). Perhaps you could get the same information elsewhere From that you can estimate the angular size of the tic-tac. With the assumed real size of the tic-tac, you can now estimate a distance. Using the deflection angle in the top of the frame to track the motion of the camera (or assuming the FLIR gaze is actually steady) and assuming that the tic-tac moves purely left on the frame, you can then take the time it takes for it to leave the frame and estimate a speed (potentially, also, put a rough lower limit on the acceleration). In the past, Fravor has suggested that this video shows it moving very fast.
