New for the day: -Pritzker announced his re-election bid. - Rodney Davis, US House rep who is about to have his district disappear, immediately went after Pritzker on Twitter. He is going to run against Pritzker as the non-insane R candidate. The only way he would not is if they did not destroy his district. - R leader in US House announced who is going to be on the committee to investigate the 1/6 insurrection. Rodney Davis was announced as one of the five. (He is one of only two that were announced that actually voted to certify the election). I am guessing that Davis will be pretty good on the committee, especially if he wants to run for Governor. If he stays to run in whatever becomes of his district, he is going to have to run to the right of whomever primaries him.

Kinzinger is pretty young still and I can't imagine why he'd want to run right now. Not a great time to be running as a Republican in a blue state.

Jesse White finally actually retiring eh? When I studied abroad in France we went and got cell phones for everyone by handing the employees a stack of licenses. Everyone’s phone was connected to their name on their license except for one person who for whatever reason they put down as Jesse White. She was naturally Jesse White for the rest of it. Local rep ignores the top paragraph to just point out that masks are optional. He does not even encourage people to wear masks. Going by his logic, there is not mandate for pants in school so pants are now optional as well.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...ocid=uxbndlbing Blagojevich is suing for the right to run for public office in Illinois again. He says he's representing himself but he was disbarred so I don't know how that is going to work. I don't understand how this guy can go anywhere without getting pelted with rotten vegetables.

The suburbs are acting like there's no virus so any mask mandate won't just be ignored by the south of the state. Private sector is so mad it can't micromanage the employees from home, and the mask mandate is a symbol of that dreaded government oversight. The school mandate hopefully leads to real masking numbers but oh God I'm terrified for them, being young enough to remember how lovely high schools are

Glad he’s doing this, so many school boards showing their whole rear end wrt mask mandates now they have a scapegoat they can aim the magats at. Downstate still will ignore it unless he ties it to funding from the state or something.

# ? Aug 4, 2021 16:08 |
Yeah, Darren Bailey is already telling all the schools to ignore the mandate because they cannot force kids to wear a mask just like they cannot force you to get a vaccine.

Same with all of the officers who said that they were going to quit after police reform bill was passed....which turned out to be only the ones old enough to retire who used the bill as the reason for their retirement.

I am kind of ok with people needing to go through a hoop to do online betting. When I was in college I worked at a casino and I saw first hand how gambling and addiction could destroy people. Forcing people to at least have to go somewhere once before being able to lose all their money online is at least somewhat a barrier of entry.

But you're forcing them to go to a casino where there are a whole bunch of other highly addictive games with worse odds. How does that make things safer? Just seems like an unnecessary obstacle for people who don't have access to their own car. Like I can see it for high balance accounts, but for the person who wants to put a few hundred bucks into an account to bet against the Bears, it sucks.

Just seems like an unnecessary obstacle for people who don't have access to their own car. Well the big reason is that casinos have a lot of rules and regulations in place and in most states have to inform the customer of risks involved and whatnot. Also in most states players can be banned from playing either personally, by the casino or in some cases family/guardians. Of course you have the fear of minors and whatnot playing as well which eliminates that completely as you have State Gaming officials on site to make sure that people registering are legal, etc. I imagine it saves both the State and the companies money as well doing it that way. And I think it is also protecting people from it a little. Like if you don't have a car and can't get out to one of the places to get registered once you probably shouldn't be wasting money gambling in the first place. I am not a huge fan of gambling in the first place and having a barrier of entry can stop some of the most vulnerable from being taken advantage of I am all for it. If they want to bet against the Bears that bad I am sure there are office pools and whatnot that they can be 5-10 bucks on and not risk losing their necks.
