Cross posting from the covid thread:osprey posted:rebekah jones, the ousted florida DOH whistleblower, still posts occasionally on her own site. she posted this morning https://news.yahoo.com/china-uses-rebekah-jones-conspiracies-195800925.html quote:Christina Pushaw, DeSantis's press secretary, told the Washington Examiner: “I don’t believe Rebekah Jones is an agent of China or anything like that. I do believe that China has used and exploited her conspiracy theories to push their own agenda, to push their own narrative, and to undermine and discredit DeSantis because his policies have obviously been in direct opposition to what the Chinese Communist Party wants in America." So I'm not saying that Rebekah Jones, a government employee who we fired for calling out our obviously bullshit numbers, completely ruined and humiliated in public by exposing her past mental health and marital records, then sent out cops loyal to the state governing to arrest and jail on obviously fake charges, who then caught COVID while in jail, and was only rescued by the regime in Washington because a new president had ascended the throne, is a Chinese agent , I'm just asking questions

As for Iran, the higher vaccination rates in Russia hurt them pretty badly because they were counting on exports prior to Delta. A lot of right now just comes to production. I would assume China is going to start seriously exporting in a couple weeks.

I would also assume that the cost of the American vaccines also factors into it. It would be a smart move on China's part to supply vaccines for cost or even free to assert dominance.

I remember when western media covered a chinese olympic diver a few years ago (Rio?) that said like "yeah I got bronze. I wish I could have done better. Sucks cause I'm on my period or I would have gotten silver lol" and english language media was like 'she's so brave to discuss her biology when she comes from a patriarchal society' but chinese people really don't give a poo poo that people have periods, it's not a faux pax to be a human being for them and never was as far as I know so you can just mention it if you want or be in the water with while on the rag since you're an olympic diver you know it was not a revolutionary act against the patriarchy she just swam with cramps

Some Guy TT posted:https://twitter.com/connell_douglas/status/1425051853818109977 It's a difficult thing to measure and there's a lot of confounding factors that can't really be controlled. - 99% of HCWs in Thailand not infected doesn't mean without the vaccine, 100% of them would have been infected. That's obviously a dumb stat. - No one knows how effective any of the vaccines are against asymptomatic infection because they aren't testing the entire population every day to find them, so only people who are getting symptoms get tested. Maybe they do that for the new Mayo clinic study, I haven't read it. - The initial efficacy numbers basically said: between 2 populations of vaxxed and unvaxxed, 20 x as many unvaxxed people ended up developing symptomatic covid as vaxxed people. This doesn't mean that out of 100 people who get the shot, 95 of them are just immune to covid forever. I think a better analogy would be 2 groups of 100 people randomly rolling the dice i.e. encountering infectious events a number of times for a fixed time period, and assuming both groups are rolling the dice an equal number of times, 20 people in one group ended up getting a certain result at least once while only 1 person in the other group did. So it seems like getting the vax does *something*, but we don't know what else is happening. e.g. maybe both groups were wearing masks and distancing, as you would reasonably expect people to do before a known effective vaccine existed, and thus were only rolling the dice once per day, but now that we "know" that we have the vax and are thus immortal, maybe we all stop doing the masking and distancing and other stuff and now everyone rolls the dice 100 times per day - this number would also change depending on how many other people in the environment are infected. What then? No one knows how any of this stuff works well enough to give any sort of recommendation beyond "keep doing everything else, but also get the vax because if you do get infected it probably helps you not die." - So of course the CDC's recommendation is "once you get the vax just start shooting covid directly into your rear end lol".

The Philippine media continually running stories about allegedly ineffective Sinovac is (usually copy-pasted from AP and Reuters reports, go figure) has created a situation where vaccination sites go empty whenever word gets around that it's Sinovac that's being administered on that day But when it's any other brand, so many people rush to do a walk-in that cops are called-in to do crowd control, even if it's J&J

So effectiveness is the measure, in a real world population, of how many of those vaccinated get an intended result (in this case not getting infected). So in a vaccinated population 88% fewer people would contract the disease when they come into contact with the virus. That's an important thing to keep in mind when looking at Health Care Worker data, they're using additional protections to make sure they come into contact with the virus less (masks, face shields, etc).

Some Guy TT posted:https://twitter.com/connell_douglas/status/1425051853818109977 yes. here’s how it works. ignore all those people above me. what you do is make a conclusion about which vaccine you want to advocate for. then you look up some raw statistics about infection rates or trial data or whatever. then you cherry pick which data supports your desired conclusion and toss the rest in the trash, call the numbers you cherry picked “effectiveness” and sprinkle in some weasel words as necessary. now your qualified to write for a major media outlet!

It doesn’t help that different studies have different definitions of symptomatic infections and therefore you can have wide variance on top of all the other factors. One would think there would a single standard but it there isn’t one. The numbers between the two shots for the Sinovac are probably pretty similar to JnJ after a few months. The Brazilian study for example was only using 1 shot and even there only a few weeks after injection, but it been reported as a full course. As for the Philippines, the US honestly wants full military access to the Philippines in border to start building missile sites along the SCS. It is obvious.
