Apparently I am up to date and that hotfix might have been a silent install. Weird, since every other update I've had triggered the "Update required, where do you want to install it?" prompt.
There's two phases of updates. There's traditional updates that affect the raw crap in the install folder and there's content updates that patch planes, missions, and general content which is stored in your in game selected content folder so it double checks where its working on when it needs to do it. The last hot patch appears to be only the former and these should be pushed semi-auto based on your platform.

Anyone else enjoying the new seaplanes?

I think visiting the Lofoten isles works really great with them (there's also a Discovery flight). But I haven't found the perfect sightseeing location for these planes yet. I'm thinking of maybe making a trip along the Amazon or some other large water system.

The Adirondacks in New York have tons of seaplane tours/docks but I don’t know if they’re represented in the game or not. Beautiful country, too. Might not translate quite as well as higher peaks like the Rockies though, they’re relatively small mountains compared to other areas.

Is there a list of what planes have bugs? My last two 2hr+ flights on the G36 have ended with the plane going from perfectly normal, level flight to full spaz corkscrew with subsequent rapid uncontrolled descent and mid-air breakup.

The official forums have a bugs subforum, so that'll give you an idea of what's broken.

What you're describing sounds like it might be an issue with time acceleration, the AI pilot, or active pause, since all those have been known to occasionally do some weird poo poo.

Hell, same. Picked up the throttle quadrant from the xplane store and then the yoke from here: https://www.sportys.com/honeycomb-alpha-flight-simulator-yoke.html

This was irresponsible. Oh well.

Pitch trim increments seem way larger post-SU5 than before. I'm having to rely more on throttle adjustments now than trim to stay level.

Hey all popping into the thread again. I have an Xbox One X and I am trying to decide whether to buy a $1500 gaming PC or get a Xbox Series X.

What is the goon consensus on the Series X build of MSFS? Almost as good as PC, or should I skip the console upgrade and just buy the PC? Sorry if this has been posted there are a couple hundred new posts.

Upcoming Battlefield 2042 is also playing into the equation....

I just got a high end gaming rig a few months ago, and msfs2020 was one of the main reasons. But i also have the xbox series x.

The xbox version is good and will only continue to improve as it gets future optimizations. The lower FPS is offset by the comfort of playing on the couch on the big screen TV and the more recreational feel. I got a budget logitech flight stick but I prefer to use the xbox controller because of the haptics and the fact that you can program pretty much every control you need because you can program things to button combos.

I’d only get the gaming PC if you plan to play in VR, which I am. If i’m not playing in VR I play on the xbox.

On a somewhat unrelated note, T16000M sticks seem to be in stock and going for about $80 at the moment (I got the Airbus-styled version but the only functional difference is that the little throttle slider has a detent at 20%).

I ain't no fancy pants plane drivin' type fella or nothing but I think it's fantastic, at least based on my quick session with it earlier today. Feels like a very high-end piece of kit. I don't know if they'll work on the Xbox version but if you're looking to pick up a stick on PC then I'd definitely recommend it.

It's a good stick and that's a good price for it. From there you're looking at stuff like the entry-level VKB (and other boutique) sticks, or the Warthog. And those are all great, but the TnumbersM will satisfy the vast majority of people.

So I found my copy of crimson skies and my cyborg gold joystick in a box at my parents house. I loving loved that game, but it probably isn't viable nowadays. Assuming the joystick is still working, is there an Arcady action flight game like that which is fun that I can blast through in single player? My PC is old, I don't have vr.

Project Wingman, though it and Ace Combat is best played with a controller, the joystick support for both is pretty much just a gimmick.

So my Honeycomb Alpha came in today. 1) It rules. 2) It turns out that the large circular pad in the middle of the mounting plate isn't a simple rubber pad, but it's covered in an extremely sticky adhesive designed to permanently or semi-permanently affix the plate to a surface. Who would've guessed! Not me, the guy who didn't read the instructions, tore off the film cover without a second thought, and plopped it right onto my crappy desk with a cheap thin "veneer."

In other news, I'm now in the market for a new desk.

No, really, I hosed up and gave my desk quite a bit of cosmetic damage when removing that loving mounting plate. It IS just cosmetic and I can continue using it, but the desk has a keyboard tray that makes the clamps unusable. So I guess I need to accelerate my plans for refurnishing this room.

FWIW I also didn’t realize woops that’s a permanent thing and eventually just attached and reattached it enough that it collected bits and dust from the desk and doesn’t stick very much anymore. :v: problem solved!

It's so sticky that I assumed it's a chemical adhesive, but I guess it's not leaving a residue. Whatever it is, it really did not want to let go of my desk without taking the veneer with it. (it's a really lovely desk, to be fair)

Those pop-up things? I tried those too, but it didn't really help since it was attached to a surface that was already separating from the main body of the desk. After experimenting with the mounting plate on different materials, the conclusions I've come to are 1) my desk was made of really lovely materials, and 2) I'm a clumsy idiot.
