If anything, Pakistan is more likely to be China’s Afghanistan, that’s where there’s actual terrorist attacks against Chinese workers

Would be ironic if what ends up happening is the Afghan Taliban sending stabilization forces there to fight the Pakistani Taliban to protect BRI workers while the CIA and India fund the jihadists

i really dont think theres enough appreciation for how unconditional surrender really hosed up the playbook for japan and it really wasnt particularly unreasonable of them to assume that they could negotiate a new mutually beneficial treaty because that was basically how the entire history of war had played out

like poo poo theyd literally just watched negotiated surrenders play out in europe and it was a full year after they bombed pearl harbor before anyone was seriously talking about how negotiated surrenders are dumb and that enemy countries needed to be burned to the ground

https://fdr.blogs.archives.gov/2017/01/10/the-casablanca-conference-unconditional-surrender/

quote:

It was during this press conference that FDR first publicly brought up “unconditional surrender” of Germany, Italy and Japan. That phrase generated enormous discussion and controversy...The idea of “unconditional surrender” had first come up with American military leaders in May, 1942, and Churchill himself had used the phrase in a telex to his war cabinet and had approved its use in the press release which was drafted on January 18th.

What might have startled Churchill, and led to later confusion, is FDR’s inclusion of Italy because Churchill had argued that they should leave the door open for a separate peace treaty with Italy. The manner in which FDR said it might also have surprised Churchill as it was a departure from the approved statement. After saying rather formally that “peace can come to the world only by the total elimination of German and Japanese war power” FDR lapsed into his folksy storytelling mode. “Some of you Britishers know the old story — we had a General called U.S. Grant. His name was Ulysses Simpson Grant but in my, and the Prime Minister’s, early days he was called “Unconditional Surrender” Grant. The elimination of German, Japanese and Italian war power means the unconditional surrender by Germany, Italy and Japan.”

I like talking to americans about how the US had two dictators, Lincoln and FDR, and there is really no arguing it. They even had everyday people thrown into prison camps illegally like those foreign badguy dictators. But hey we like our dictators, USA #1

I dont think the IRS would let any of the current coins be elevated into digital dollar status and I'm sure some department has already hired a team to sit on their rear end and play around to make a digital dollar at least from the conceptual standpoint.

I can totally see america screwing their own dollar because they half rear end it in response to something, anything, china does though.

every socialist country has thought about developing cryptocurrency in order to circumvent the problem of the US dollar and US sanctions choking the ability to trade, whether China, Venezuela, or Cuba

most of the time it doesn't go anywhere because crypto is too difficult to make work in that fashion, but the sentiment is very genuine
