Here in New Orleans, the mayor put out an edict that you have to show proof of vaccination for restaurants, gyms and concerts.

I was on a self-imposed news and social media diet for most of the summer. I turned on the TV a few weeks back and ABC was blaring about how we were "in the midst of a surge that will peak in October at the earliest," which was so incredibly above and beyond what people even here were predicting when I last read the forums. Turns out that telling everyone in May that covid is over for the vaccinated and for loving liars was a bad idea. lol

SMITH CO., Miss. (WLBT) - According to Smith County School District, schools will be shutting down for two weeks due to the high number of COVID-19 cases. Superintendent Nick Hillman says the decision comes after a high number of students, teachers, and staff tested positive for COVID-19 or are in quarantine. The shutdown begins Monday, August 23, in order to give parents time to make arrangements for their children. According to Hillman, after the two weeks are over, the district will reevaluate and determine whether to go to virtual learning. As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, the Smith County website states there were 659 students, teachers, and staff members in quarantine and 104 confirmed cases.

The kid is going to be denied entry today, but holy poo poo if the teacher hadnt just randomly checked facebook he'd be back in class shooting covid everywhere again. think of how many thousands of households are doing this same thing right now

Rural hospitals all over the country are locking the doors, especially in states that abandoned the ACA Medicaid expansion and deliberately deprived themselves of a payer of last resort for the great mass of working poor who would have qualified for Medicaid under the expansion but don’t with just about any sort of job as things stand now. Medicaid members have better health outcomes in places like that than commercial insurance members because they get preventative care. There’s no unexpected $600 coinsurance standing in the way of having the little things taken care of.

My spouse gets in the 6th, I'm gonna go get shot 3 on the 7th so he can babysit me instead of me falling down stairs and almost crashlanding on dogs and puking on sheep. Because shot 2 was a shitshow and I was non-functional for a solid 3 days beyond dragging my corpse out to feed the livestock and there were points where I was downright crawling to do that. His rear end can do it. military hospital refuses to say they have icu beds on social media because "we report through official channels not social media" despite the fact that they won't shut up on social media. just say you don't, lads. just say it so the world hears it. saw a lot more masks while we were doing pickups yesterday though the one tractor supply I had to run into (their online ordering kept kicking me back out) had only employees in them.

Yup and urban hospitals are getting swamped. Of course her hospital is making a shitload and is actually opening up this giant expansion with over 800 rooms. And they had so much money that instead of curtains all the rooms have that electronic privacy glass. But even with the bonus and extra pay to nurses and doctors it's just so much. They pretty much expect that they are going to have people start dying in the waiting room and have extra greeters on shift to try to watch out for it now. So don't go to the hospital right now...
