I watch a lot of bad prestige TV with my girlfriend who will stick it out through the worst of show's excesses to see if it pays off (I've seen four terrible seasons of the Handmaid's Tale for this reason) and but Westworld S2 was so bad she just flat gave up and never even considered watching it again.

were into a very specific form of idealist dogma which took increasing amounts of space in the show, culminating with the intersectional gang of minorities including Our Main Hero, an actual war criminal but special due to his Old White blood, sealing white people off from sorcery forever

it started totally losing the plot halfway through. it felt like the writers got carried away and weren't really able to deal with the mysterious implications they used to make the show compelling. also the lovecraft stuff with anxieties and fell eternity never panned out, it ended up being a straight modern-fantasy series

I made it as far as the episode where the woman lives a bunch of different lives to find herself or whatever and it never really seemed like it was telling a cohesive story - plus the cgi did that thing where it just felt very off putting and not quite right idk how to explain it but it didn’t mesh well for me - anyway glad to hear it fucks up the landing so o can scratch it off the “should probably finish this one of these days” list

I like BCS enough, but I gotta agree w/ matt that would be hell of a lot better if it wasn't attached to the hip of Breaking Bad, something no one has thought of since 2010. when i watch it i can't help but feel it would have been a lot better of a show without the scaramancas and the frings. do we really need to know how hector gets a bell??

I think Illych explained it well enough but to maybe simplify things, it started off with a somewhat interesting premise (that i actually enjoyed the first 2 eps), but coated in academia-white guilted liberalness of racism is bad *bonk* do you get it yet? *bonk* racism is bad *bonk* racism is bad *bonk* how about now?

then it started cutting away to other Diverse Abused Multi-Racial Intersectional new characters all on their own cut-aways, all eventually coming together to ban whites from doing magic ever again lol

yeah the character who could live forever in an afrofuturist paradise, could be anyone and achieve anything and ended up deciding that actually, being a doting mother is objectively the most important thing a woman can do

i'm mostly mad in that i actually really liked the first episode (despite the sorkin-tier liberalness) because I actually like premises of weird occultian-magic poo poo set between victorian to ww2 ea; and some of the period-piece sets/cgi they did was quite good, actors were generally enjoyable, and then it just completely hosed it up writing-wise

Wrong, the reason BCS is so great is that you know it's a tragedy from the beginning.

yeah i started getting serious reservations when they put a whole side-plot about the massacre of a native tribe which wasn't really connected to much of anything else in a flooded basement for no obvious reason and i lost all faith when they decided that it was a good idea to give their hero a Gritty Past by making him commit actual war crimes

In some theoretical world, there exists a different show in which only white people can use magic, and despite their magic, they constantly complain about how minorities don't find life as easy as they do, and any attempt to give minorities magic is met with scorn and derision, and the whole thing is a metaphor for privilege and inherited wealth, but anyone hearing "Whites Only Magic" would declare the show racist on sight and rework it into a magic Wakanda thing where all the minorities have magic powers and just happen to not use them to fight their oppression because then they would be as bad as the non-magic whites or some "both sides" type BS
