Up ta somethin'

Some Texas hospitals are looking to prioritize vaccinated patients over unvaccinated patients if things get worse (which they will).

quote:

1. “COVID-19 vaccination decreases severe infection and death. Vaccine status therefore may be considered when making triage decisions as part of the physician’s assessment of each individual’s likelihood of survival.”

2. “When vaccination status is considered, accommodations may be needed when the reason for non-vaccination is beyond the patient’s control such as but not limited to caretaker refusal to have a disabled dependent vaccinated, recent COVID-19 infection, or medical contraindication.”

3. “Many are understandably angry and frustrated with the unvaccinated, but triage must remain grounded upon likelihood of survival. Health care professionals should continue to honor duties of care and compassion.”

but wait you say, what about disproportionate rates of unvaccinated folks in disadvantaged groups? don't worry the doctors considered it:

quote:

“This policy pretends that it is just focusing on objective medical knowledge, but it ignores societal injustices,” Schmidt said. “In such cruel clarity, COVID-19 has exposed the consequences of the structural inequities that we’ve had so long. That’s why it’s critical that we don’t add to that, and in this case, we risk that.”

When I asked the task force doctors about this, they said the subject was discussed in their meeting.

“There was concern about it,” Fine said. “I think we have to acknowledge that the African-American community has been mistreated for 400 years. They have reasons to be distrustful. So we at least want physicians in triage to think about that.”

He added, “The reality is vaccination status can affect the likelihood of survival. Doctors in triage can say, ‘This is a person from a disadvantaged community. We’re going to accommodate them, and we’re going to give it [vaccination status] less weight in our mind.’”

oh wait the article continues a bit...

quote:

Unfortunately, his memo did not mention this.

“In the first version of my memo, it was there,” Fine told me. But he tried to keep his note short because he said doctors don’t have a lot of time to read.

can't expect doctors to take five additional seconds to read something critically important, better to just gently caress over the usual groups yet again.

that rule applies to viruses with like a 90% kill rate

what's covid got, like 1.5%? plenty of room to grow if it wants to. there's no selective pressure whatsoever to push it toward being less deadly. if that happens, it will be purely by accident

they're all invented reasons and carousel rotating goalposts anyway

why go hospital if covid doesn't exist and is a hoax?

why do you not want to wear masks but want a surgeon to wear a mask that you claim doesn't work while they cut you open?

why gladly take an even more experimental, less tested, less used experimental treatment than a mrna vaccine?

why do you want oxygen or a ventilator so badly if covid doesn't exist?

why go to a doctor or hospital at all if you don't trust doctors or modern medical science?

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it mutates to have a significantly higher kill rate. And if that happens, we're just going to see more people die, because what the gently caress are humans gonna do about it?

I wasn't going to post this but you talked me into it:

It's been T+24 hrs since I tricked the clinic into giving me Pfizer shot after having been vaccinated with J&J in early April. So far the only side effect I've had is a sore arm, but the soreness is significantly less than with the J&J shot.

J&J: immediate pain at the injection site like I'd just gotten hit in the upper arm with a 5lb sledgehammer. Pain went away after 24hrs. On the pain scale the soreness was probably a 6

Pfizer: no pain immediately after the shot but slowly ramped up over several hours. After 24 hours I'd call this soreness an 2 on the pain scale.

I have things I'd like to do this weekend but I'm being tentative on making plans in case I jinx myself and get wrecked over the next 24 hours.

Maybe we should have a thread for respirator chat and stuff? I feel like there's probably enough to justify it?

It's all posturing with these assholes, especially this one. They change their tune real fuckin' quick when they get seriously scared that they're gonna die.

I have a friend who, several years back, had to go spend some time with some Christian Science family members because one of them gave in and went to the hospital. My friend was there specifically because her relative did not understand, let alone believe in, germ theory, among many other things, so she had to translate between regular doctor-patient communication and crazy speak.

This isn't right, viruses mutate to become more communicative, which usually means they become less deadly for their host, but not always, especially in the short or medium term. Being less pathogenic is an incidental result of the usual methods of increased infectivity.

How in the gently caress are people waiting until like 80% O2 saturation to get help? I have a thing that restricts oxygen that's supposed to stimulate red blood cell growth to help pre-train for high altitude and you're supposed to sit there breathing through it for an hour long session keeping your O2 and 90%. It loving sucks and is incredibly uncomfortable.

Are most Americans just THAT unhealthy generally that they don't notice something like that?
