Thanks! One Terabyte of Kilobyte Age & other projects by Olia Lialina and Dragan Espenscheid influenced the development of the game pretty significantly. I was even able to meet them in Stuttgart! Without spoiling much if you enjoy the concept of digital archaeology the latter half of the game will be 1000% in your wheelhouse.

As for this thread, Net Cafe owns and was also a big influence on Hypnospace.

Yeah this activated a weird memory hole for me because honestly the song kind-of sucks but the hook is just memorable enough to lodge in deep and that video with The Matrix fashions and Jersey Shore haircut is :discourse:

I was always disappointed when I saw markers like that. Usually when they diverge from the typical crayola markings, it’s because they had some extra gimmick.

But should you?

Like...I guess if you still manage to have a spinning drive, but isn't defragging somewhere from useless to actually bad for SSDs? Since they have a limited number of read/write cycles, and there isn't really a physical "location" for files to be next to each other in, you're just (albeit barely) reducing it's lifespan?

Great.

I was so bored at my 90's job I would defrag my floppies, and Windows 95 was dumb enough to do it. It was satisfying.

Yeah. Don't defrag ssds. That said, spinning metal is still useful for archival or bulk storage. I have one as a steam/videos/adobe scratch disc because it's cheaper per gig and I don't have to worry about write cycles.

EDIT: Also NTFS and ext3/4 are way smarter about storing files which, combined with larger disks, really means you shouldn't have to deal with defragging as a regular chore.

That's why Captain Marvel captures the 90s so well, not just having tons of 90s music and stuff, but it has stupid stuff like how it would take like a minute for anything to load on a computer.

Everyone else is just relaxing and Carol, who is used to super fast alien computers is confused why everyone is just waiting like this is a normal thing.

You're forgetting a large portion of the audience for that movie was born after the 90's and also has no frame of reference to what's going on :corsair:.

All you did was say what I already implied out loud.

They could have gone as late as 2005 and it would have held. There's a version out there of Brie Larson in JNCOs on a skateboard.
