Tumblr always tended toward hard echo-chambering of whatever your opinions happened to be, which had a pretty obvious effect on teenagers just figuring out how to talk about their opinions in a public setting, but most of the people affected by this have moved on to Having A Really Tough Time On Twitter Dot Com by now

I really liked Tumblr until I realized I couldn't just get like blogs about old comic books and animation and shitposters and stuff without also having to see those same people reblogging constant political news poo poo. Like, it wasn't stuff I necessarily disagreed with, it was just a fuckin deluge of the same exhausting 24/7 trash I try to avoid.

also the pure chronological thing was actually a problem because if one particular person you're following decides to post fifty memes about coffee in a row one Monday morning your options are to (a) scroll forever or (b) get a third-party plugin and tell it to block all posts that mention coffee because you never want to see coffee again like, even if you're just tired of one particular person's shtick and not really into their stuff today but they just post more than anyone else you have to fully unfollow them or your feed is just their show
