My heavily modified 2003 Mini Cooper R50.
Got a car wash subscription and it started taking the roof paint off.
It was originally all Chili Red but some previous owner painted the roof black but it was a bad job. The new color doesn't have a name, just a code.

When you look at the top of the roof (flat), it looks red like the car. As it moves down the sife of the roof it turns orange then copper. Did the interior doors, ring around the shifter and the plastic parts on the E brake. And of course did the 3 inch lip on my rims. My painter sent me this video showing the doors and roof. I'll get better pics when I pick it up. I have some decals and a vinyl wrap for the back 1/2 on the way. Also some blackout tape for the trim and a black grill on the way. I'll make a thread when I get it all done.

Guys. GUYS. I did something stupid again.

‘02 Mini Cooper S 6-speed. Alta 17% pulley, intake, 450cc injectors, RMW tune, some cat-back exhaust that I haven’t found a brand on yet, rear camber arms, front camber plates, Tein springs, poly motor mounts and control arm bushings, new cross-drilled and slotted rotors, rear calipers, pads, brand new 205/45/17 Hankook Ventus V12 tires and alignment.

I ordered two new front side markers , a new key fob shell, and a new plastic clip for the driver side door latch pin assembly. Amazingly they all disintegrated. I also dynamatted the under side of the dash pad to curb the rattle.

The car was serviced at the local Mini specialist/tuner which is literally 3/4 mile from my house, so I do feel pretty good about it. I’m gonna use it as a daily.

I’m selling the RX7 because we don’t drive it, so this just fills the same physical space. Less, even. I don’t really want to do winter in the Abarth for reasons so this should work well, as well as being another regular car for my wife to drive when she doesn’t need the truck.

Alarbus posted:

Re BRZ trip report - it loving stormed hard from Albuquerque to Phoenix and I'd have probably ended up upside down in a ditch if it'd tried to drive it home on the A052s. Left Oklahoma at about 2PM local time, got home at 2:15AM AZ time so like 14hr.

Car is great, it really reminds me of my S2000 in a lot of ways, so I like that a lot. I do not like the motor characteristics with respect to complementing the chassis, this car would have been great with a K24 in it. FA20 just doesn't feel like a free revving, playful motor.

Anyway, I'll fix the power problem here soon because I'm dumb.

KakerMix's photos reminded me of a Trekker I owned up until 2017. It was a funky car, but gutless at elevation in Colorado. I sold it for $10k, even though the auction ended up on some high profile car magazine sites, and it was listed for 50k a few years later, with a bunch of inaccurate information, like "all original", "rust free", and "20k miles". I replaced the engine once, and when I titled it in Colorado, they told me that it had over 100k miles the last time it had been in Colorado, around 1992, and they marked the title as not having an accurate odometer reading. I guess whoever it passed through after that got the title flag removed.

Here are my sad photos of the day it got loaded on a truck to go away:

It’s not so much “rotary at 70k miles” as it is “Renesis at 70k miles”. The older naturally aspirated 12a and 13b motors would last a good long while with regular not much more than regular oil changes.

But otherwise, I’m super happy to see another rotary on its way back from the brink. Good stuff!

Man I wish I somehow knew about this back in 2017 as I would have screamed at you to not auction it. Auctions never go well, at least for cool Japanese (in my experience)
A yellow Trekker, especially that looks that good, is solid gold and easily was an investment thing even in 2017.

Like poo poo man I would have paid you 15k at the time for it just so it could be worth 35-40k now.

I know, but it hit Bring A Trailer (https://bringatrailer.com/2017/10/06/pre-4runner-rarity-restored-1981-toyota-trekker/ was my listing), and made a couple car magazine websites, so I was sure I'd get a pop in price at the end of the auction. When it fizzled out, at almost exactly the same price a Trekker sold a few months earlier (https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1981-toyota-winnebego-trekker-4x4/), I just took my loss for what it was.

I know, especially in 2017 I wouldn't have actually had my opinion on Bring a Trailer for Toyotas and other Japanese vehicles. It's just a pain is all, hindsight 2020 and all that. Plus I would have loved to compare it to a first-gen 4Runner (or Hilux Surf) that we had.

Late crosspost from the BMW thread:

Here is my BMW

I know probably not to everyone in here’s taste but ticks many boxes for me:

- Live in a town house with barely enough parking for 1 car, never mind 2 so need a car that does everything

- Dogs fit well in the back

- My wife has MS so it’s easy for her to get in and out of

- It has a rad red interior

- It handles better than my old 435d

- It is very very fast

Was looking at the Macan as well but the performance to £ ratio was massively in favour of the X3M.

It’s one of these that goes with the dog guard and is custom fit for the X3: https://www.travall.co.uk/divider

Useful for when we need to carry luggage or whatever but most of the time it’s out of the car and they have the whole boot to themselves. It is very easy to install and remove (unlike the dog guard).
