Engage according to operational parameters
how much more effective is pfizer if you wait longer between first and second doses? i've got my second dose booked in for 3 weeks after my first, but the govt is now recommending a 6 week gap (ostensibly to allow more people to get their first dose, but i think efficacy was a factor in their decision)

personal safety and vaccine availability are not critical to me - i'm in nz so am unlikely to get infected in an extra 3 week wait, and there are plenty of bookings available if i choose to reschedule

Wheeler County in OR has like 1.3k people total, so it is extremely noisy in terms of maps. When it got two cases at the start of August it immediately popped into the darkest red.

I approached a checkout counter with mine on and the bagger who had his nose out of his mask readjusted it and put it on correctly.

Found out my buddy's (vaxinated) grandpa popped positive for COVID yesterday, but he's had symptoms for over a week and refused to believe it could be COVID. He'd been going around to restauraunts, grocery stores, and hangin' out with friends the whole time because it was "just the sniffles" lmao. His daughter freaked out once she'd heard he was sick and running around town so she forced him to get tested ASAP. She had to confiscate his car keys because was still adamant he didn't have it even after his test and he kept wanting to go out and do things. Wonder how many people he put in the grave.

Still feel like I'm half dreaming tbh. Aches and pains are mostly gone now though.

Like I said earlier, these antivax people are totally irrational and completely unpersuadable even in the face of their own deaths and their family's deaths (including their children). Forcibly vaccinating them does them, and the rest of us, a huge favor. As we've seen, barely any will resist. They'll cry about it on social media and then accept the vaccine. And their lives are saved!

it entirely loving sucks, but you have you have to dig in deep on everything that crosses your path and figure out the angle, funding, support, science, actual credentials, etc on all of it, and then you have to find a community that lines up with the conclusions you have preliminarily drawn on your own, and then (maybe) you can let that community analyze and collate and filter this for you so you dont feel entirely on your own without guidance

unfortunately this is also how people get radicalized to go bomb some poo poo

sorry, not sure what the solution is here

It's because they're not scientists. MDs aren't scientists. MDs aren't scientists. MDs aren't scientists. And we're not even talking about infectious disease specialist MDs.

You've got a bunch of bullshit artists out there saying follow the science and trust the experts when they themselves are not scientists and are not expertly qualified to speak on epidemiology or public health, but trust me because I'll give you an excuse to put your kid back in school and get back to Applebees.

Not even going to dignify the idea of economists as scientists. Yeah, obviously they want to kill people for number, the entire field of mainstream grant-writing economics is position papers and think pieces that boil down to killing people for number is good actually and furthermore

What set of principles do you imagine a graduate of the Harvard school of economics who then went to teach at the Chicago school of business and then later the Brown school of economics had that they then sold out on in order to make money?

The Death Panel podcast talks about the fantasy hospital system and it reminded me of my brother years ago. My father worked for a major hospital, so while we didn't have a lot of money, my family had our healthcare fully covered by his plan. My ultra chud brother got into a whole mode about how national health services were bullshit since you have to wait because in America you can just walk right into the hospital and get whatever you needed. He had no concept at all that what we had was completely unavailable to the vast majority of the world.

This is a great example of privilege as originally described in theory. He has absolutely no idea what a massive advantage he has in life; just completely blind to it because he's never known anything else.
