as far as talking to the people here on CSPAM, whether or not you support Force The Vote is neither here nor there in isolation, but it's incredibly galling that The Squad is willing to do "Force the Vote" on issues BESIDES M4A, and especially when AOC, when she was still campaigning, said that she believed in the need to hold a vote on M4A, even if it wasn't going to pass
even worse, aoc pivoted from framing a failed floor vote on m4a as a small but good concession to explicitly saying a failed floor vote on m4a hurts m4a (and other issues like $15/hr min wage)

To be fair, it's not that the squad don't want to bring the bill to the floor even if it fails. It's the fact that: 1) it's not their bill so they can't technically do it. It's Jayapal's bill. 2) They also need Pelosi to allow it to come to the floor. FTV people wanted the squad to leverage votes over Pelosi's speakership when she was going to be reinstated. This could force Pelosi to allow it. But they refused to do so.

So the whole controversy is around the squad not being brave enough to confront Pelosi when she was being reinstated.
FTV applies to any major legislation. the progressive caucus or the squad or any small number of house members could use their numbers in the slim house majority as leverage for concessions on issues like a m4a floor vote. it doesnt have to be a m4a floor vote. it can be...anything at all whatsoever

the squad has already demonstrated that they have the numbers and are painfully aware of this with the kabuki theater they did recently with the narrow passage for billions in funding to israel and d.c. cops. they are willing to vote tactically and coordinate there.

on top of that, they've explicitly tweeted out that they understand this basic parliamentary principle

This is really the most damning thing, because there's no explanation for it other than "they deliberately coordinated to pass this bill while preserving the reputation of some of them." And it happened not only once, but twice (with both the cop funding and the israel funding, as you mention). It basically proves that they know exactly what they're doing.

Yes, they are willing to leverage their votes in some situation but not in others like crossing the speaker of the house. Or Israel in your example. D.C. cops bill wasn't close at all IIRC? But anyway, that's exactly my point. They clearly don't think it's worth the risk of angering other democrats. And that's not completely unjustified since they can fund rival candidates and crush you as we saw with Nina Turner. The democratic party is full of petty, vindictive people that will totally rat gently caress you for even the smallest perceived slight.

I don't know if it's actually worth the risk or not. I don't suspect this is a cynical, calculated move like others suggest. That gives the squad too much credit. I think it's motivated purely by fear. It's evidence to me at least, that a small number of progressives can't do anything and only a massive, bottom-up movement can change anything. Parliamentary tactics aren't going to work.

the vote on d.c cop funding was a 1-vote margin. if just aoc voted no instead of present and all other votes remained the same, the bill would have failed. aoc then went back to her base and pretended to be against the vote.

just to make it clear, they are willing to do political theater to support billions in funding for d.c. cops and israel. this is not leveraging their votes to extract any concessions for their base.

stop giving aoc the benefit of the doubt. she is a cynical liar. at least twice she has voted in support of major legislation and then turned around to pretend she was against it for her base.

aoc is now making arguments why a m4a vote hurts m4a (during a pandemic) when before she was promoting a m4a vote when no one was pressing her on it.

pelosi used to be publicly for single payer. it is clear she was not sincere. politicians can lie and convince their base of their lies.

the parliamentary tactic that should be adopted is demanding popular Good things and then exposing the bougie parliament and its members as the corporate stooges they are to disillusion people. sawant wrote a good essay explaining this here:
https://www.socialistalternative.org/2021/01/14/forcethevote-far-right-attacks-and-a-strategy-for-the-left/

the squad's current parliamentary tactic is to sheepdog their supporters into incrementalism for Mama Bear, The Most Progressive [rapist] President Since FDR, and literal child concentration camps.

this was touched on in the Epstein thread, but people who are on the edge of anti-government discourse can quickly fall into anti-lockdown poo poo because it can both be true that COVID is real and that governments are managing COVID cack-handedly and that part of the cack-handed response is because they want to implement intrusions on civil liberties that don't have anything to do with epidemiologically controlling COVID

being able to thread that needle of acknowledging that the CDC is bullshit and sucks, while also still understanding that it's necessary to keep people away from each other during an airborne respiratory pandemic, is probably a better measure of someone's grasp of the issues than stuff like "he claims to be anti-imperialist yet he defends China/Putin/Assad???!!!"

Those protests in this Commonwealth country (Canada) consist of suburban and rural cranks driving in to yell at black and brown people living downtown. I used to live by Yonge and Dundas. Having some half drunk bitch yell at me I should go back to my home country was truly an expression of freedom of speech

Anti lockdown protests are far right riots

I think max is saying the wrong poo poo for the right reasons. Antilockdown stuff is almost universally reactionary, like just a pressure valve for the worst elements in society.

You can be critical to liberal responses to the situation but really the angle to attack from should be liberal governments accepting ridiculous proposals like "herd immunity". As they would prefer for mass death over their profit margins stagnating.

The whole problem is that whatever utility ivermectin may have in treating covid, it's not going to be as effective as taking the drat shot, which is free. Plus everybody taking it is essentially self-dosing and a bunch of them are poisoning themselves in the process. Just take the drat shot.
