could you elaborate?

Instead of difficulty levels you can fine tune the difficulty by modifying enemy/player damage multipliers and adjust game speed. All bosses are optional and can be run past too.

The true secret ending is a bit weird to get. You'll get if you keep playing but you can also look it up after you get the other 4 endings which are just play a lot and play the other modes.

It's the exact same as the latter model bonetroller but an infinitely better d-pad and a usb-c port instead of micro-usb.

So Rush Rally Origins is up on the Eshop for :10bux:.
Is the trailer feature complete in that it is a rally game with no navigator pop ups or verbal directions whatsoever?
Something that Over Top and Thrash Rally were able to do on the Neo Geo 25 and 30 years ago?
It's $7 here :911:

It shows turn marker overlays on the road itself and has verbal directions, at least for Time Trial and Championship modes. The Race mode (with other cars at the same time) just seems to have the turn markers.

My favourite little monsters
Dang, my run immediately after beating the game in Robot Named Fight had me get a powerup that made my scrap my health, and a powerup that turned scrap to nanobots. Then I got a powerup to shoot through enemies and another one to shoot through terrain. By the end of it I was so absurdly powerful that the penultimate boss died before I could get an attack in because of my swarm of nanobots and the final boss had every attack obliterated by my all-consuming fire/explosion shots as I jetpacked around like an idiot, killing it in about ten seconds, with over 81 nanobots circling me and maximum scrap.

The next run is destined to be disappointing, after that.

Anyway, I honestly wasn't sure if I'd like this game - I'm typically not a fan of roguelikes, especially those without progression mechanics. But I'm finding myself having fun with this one - like someone said earlier, the desire to explore the whole map, get all the powerups, the usual feelings I get from metroidvanias are here. The movement is kind of clunky and the aesthetic is ehhh but definitely worth the few bucks I paid for it, probably a little more.

We gotta set up some online quake matches or something.

gently caress I love that this game is cross-platform. I feel like you'll always be able to find at least a few games on the go. I don't care if I'm using a controller vs m+kb, I just wanna run around and shoot poo poo. :getin:

thanks - that gives me a good baseline to start.

i'm guessing keeping X and Y input the same would be smart? (i almost never mess with this stuff in games, but for quake it was really noticeable on default values)

Yes it has been how I've filled the sudden increase in time chilling at home while kid is as school, since my commute isn't an issue since last year. Trying to make the most of it before I have to go back to the office this fall. Theoretically.

I bought AV2 within minutes of its release but because I'm slow I only got to finishing it over the weekend.

AV1 is one of my favorite games, and I think this is a really-good follow-up. I appreciate that much like NES sequels it plays quite differently from AV1 and isn't really more of the same. I'd admit the melee combat is never quite as satisfying as the Contra-style run-and-gun of the original, but I found it to be serviceable and I think it had to be a bit limiting in order to encourage use of the game's other mechanics. About a third of the way through I was concerned about being stuck in drone form for so long, but in the end I preferred playing as the drone--the grapple is really good.

I've seen complaints that the ending is a bit abrupt. I'm not sure that's exactly the case although compared to AV1 where the final boss fight is telegraphed from the opening moments of the game, it certainly is. I do think it's an issue that a lot of fun power-ups like the RC boomerang and screw attack are quite near the end of the game so there's not as much opportunity to use them. I guess if you save most of your backtracking until the end then they're more useful.

The skill tree felt a bit superfluous. Other than a couple of gated items, like the hacking level and (to a lesser extent) the hacking radius, I didn't feel the need to upgrade anything else until the very end. I recall only one instance where you actually need max hacking radius to access the breach portal in the Emergence and even that isn't necessary since you can just use the breach attractor which you probably have by the time you find it.

The game appears to crash on all platforms post-credits if you have a high, but not 100% item completion. I can't tell if this is actually intentional or a bug, but it's totally on brand for AV.

Overall I think it's fair criticism to say that the game could've use a bit more polish. On the other hand, given the complexities involved with the dual-worlds mechanic, for which I didn't find any brokenness, it's understandable that all the polish and likely the development delay went into making that part of the game flawless. Certainly AV2 is a novel game and nothing else really plays quite like it. If you're a fan of exploration-focused Metroidvanias it's definitely worth a try.

I'd love to see Tom follow this up with AV3, but I can totally understand if he was a bit burned out working on these titles for over a decade and wants to try something else first.
