In anomaly there's a huge gently caress off crafting system where only really a few parts aren't used to make upgrade kits. You gotta find the recipes on dead people then rent the vice and have all the ingrieds. I just got the military top tier combat exo because they keep sending kill teams after me haha but i saved literally 200k in upgrades because i had a huge stash. If you give a repair tech all 3 tools he won't charge you for the vice so you can take your time to find what you need, or be like me and just empty your crafting stash into your inventory before hand haha. The only choke point is the stupid repair kits which can cost quite a bit but they drop too and you'll often save a huge chunk of cash.

I forgot how goddamn radioactive red forest was, now i got a new suit buffed to almost ecologist suits of protection and i'm going to comb the entire back zone for poo poo!

If you start anomaly i highly suggest getting to the bar and using that a central base because the kill teams are annoying as hell when you're crafting up a storm then hear 8 dudes screaming at you from outside hahaha.

Darkscape is just a waste of a map. It’s twice as large as it needs to be, takes forever to walk through, and at least for me in Anomaly the artifacts always seem to spawn underground and screw me out of even getting anything for my trouble.

I would say I go out of my way to avoid it but I don’t—it’s so far off the beaten path that you never have to go there if you don’t want to.

I really like darkscape, meadows, and the truck cementary. You are poo poo outta luck if you're in the open when an emission hits which is great because the other maps have so many shelters you never really worry too much about it. The only problem is they're rather empty and pointless but that can be fixed by just adding content. I love the flatness of truck cementary because you can't really see what's coming so it gets tense as hell. I had an amazing moment where i was hunting 1 blood sucker that turned out to be loving 3 then the frantic sound of gunfire attracted a controller, bandits, then loving snorks. I sat down in terror behind a BTR eating the radiation between fights it was awesome.

I gotta say though the current artifacts i've found all seem really lame or redundant. Those upgrades suit things are far better but maybe there's some really good one's i've yet to find. I kinda like the idea of the raw artifacts being meh where the finished products where people have put them into technology are better.

I treat them mostly as loot fodder to be sold. Like you say, the suit attachments that you can buy from vendors are really good, with little to no downsides. There is one stamina artifact that has better stamina recovery than the upgraded camelbacks, but I'm struggling to think of others that I'd actually use.

If I find one of the bleeding control or health artifacts, I'll keep those in my inventory and just pop them onto my belt as needed for staunching bleeding after a firefight or topping up health while traveling, but that gets really fiddly and I won't bother once I get a Nosorog suit that has its own health regen upgrade.

Getting kinda sick of radar, i'm guessing i wasn't supposed to storm up the road because i've had 3 units of monolith spawn behind me haha. I now have 2 stashes on the road filled with their poo poo but i keep running outta ammo, gonna go consolidate the stashes then go back to get more ammo haha. I have a feeling the forest itself is probably going to be crawling with monolith or i'll eventually be forced onto the road to deal with the same squads. Tempted to do an Mp7+sniper run and leave a shotgun with ammo in the stash so once i cleared to the brain scorcher i could grab my shotgun for the inside stuff.

It definitely could use a QoL pass and a reduction of the number of gun parts, like crafting repair kits from scratch should be far cheaper than buying them vendors. You should also have a crafting chain where you could craft up from some basic elements not rely on things you'd have to buy from the vendor. It would be better if you just dumped everything into the technician and he gave you an extreme discount if you had the correct ingredients.

I still prefer it to CoP's system because while you maybe wouldn't be grabbing entire suits off dead people you should be able to easily salvage parts of it to recreate it yourself from scratch. I also love being able to scrap guns you pick up and choosing the best pieces of them but let's be honest you wouldn't be grabbing trigger assemblies or hammers haha you'd just take the entire loving lower with barrel attached. So get rid of like 4 pieces right there and now you're inventory isn't so cluttered and you can easily make a decision to drop a gun on the ground or scrap it for 1 of it's 2 parts.

Get hosed brain scorcher/radar! Took me 3 stashes and giving up a ton of valuable poo poo like purified water but now i'm finally reclaiming all the loot. It's pretty insane how i've exhausted 4 ammunition types because of monolith but now i'm rocking an SVD + MP7 until i can build up my ammo reserves but the good news is the Alife system is spawning all those monolith back at the power station/PP so they gotta slowly make their way back to redforest so now duty/freedom/ecology can slow start replacing their spawns.

I hope stalker 2 is basically the world rushing into the zone so there's a ton of combat from different forces, it'd be a good explanation for all the human vs human combat. It would be fun also if they tried to nuke the zone then it basically exploded again so the maps could be even bigger.

So don't go to radar in anomaly because monolith will endlessly spawn and after killing enough of them they'll start spawning with loving RPG's haha. Played a fun little game of hoofing 500kg of stash from 1 back pack to another until i had it on the edge of the map, now i get to play a fun little game of bringing 450kg of weight back to my home base of cordon! Haha might just move it all to the bar though since i'm cool with duty and the kill teams will have a harder time spawning on my head there.

I thought clear sky grenades were bad but nope, RPG's sprinkled in really spice up fire fights haha. I stormed the barricade for the 8th goddamn time to kill off the monolith squads and took an RPG to the chest as i did, hey they're learning how to do deal with greedy stalkers walking around in power armor.

No, I get hip to carry all my junk, someone should mod her to say "i'm sworn to carry your burdens" or no, probably not, it was the number one cause of lydia death.

But seriously; get hip, go buy the over and under shotty with a sight from the garbage trader, and a tin of tuna. and visit the goon village, do as she says, go away, then give her the can for tuna, bingo, a nice suit and a companion.
I use the mod that makes the companion the same faction as you.
Also, WRT Crafting junk.
Its wack. but, should you actually want to do it (will save money eventually, when the stuff you have access to costs so much to repair) there are 2 faction repair people who you can Murk and steal their vices, well, their workshop area, you probably do need fast travel on for it, they are, either the monolith or the bandits. both are in the big 3 COP zones, and I usually take the mono one, although, having monolith wearing nosrogs wander up to you while you are tinkering can suck.
The bandit one is where you do the hostage thing in COP, kill all the bandito's and you might get a popup about the vice, saying its free. put a few stashes down with the crap you want to fix/breakdown, tools, books etc. and only visit hog when you feel lazy.

Arghy
Nov 15, 2012

I thought about getting a companion but they seem like way to big of a liability. I was doing a rescue mission in the cordon and right at the top of the rookie village i heard a goddamn ambient noise that sounded like a bloodsucker so i was watching for that but apparently 3 military stalkers were wandering a safe distance away at the same time. The guy i was escorting starts shooting at them which in turn drew aggro from the entire check point wiping out the rookie village. I had told him stealth and don't engage in combat but the rookie village has military stalkers with weird scripts that come super close without aggroing.

I've gotten to the point that i'm only taking apart rare guns and keeping new ones i haven't seen before but i'm still ripping apart every single suit because they're filled with good crafting materials. I just carry a plain backpack which weighs less than a kg and during intense areas with tons of loot i just create a stash then load it all inside there. You can't fast travel normally with yellow overload which is absurd so i turned off that rule anyhow so when it's time to go back to home base i just grab the entire stash usually red overloaded then fast travel back without having to make multiple trips.

You don't wanna kill the techs until you give them all tools to get that achievement but even then once you give a single tech all 3 tools they'll let you use their bench for free. Seeing as you get near constant hit squads wandering up on you i'd shudder to use the bench anywhere that's not a safe spawn zone.

Made it to the CNPP in the first SOC playthrough. Wish I'd known it was a point of no turning back because I came straight from the brain scorcher and did not bring enough medkits for the run to the sarcophagus to shelter from the blowout. At least two snipers with fuckin railguns or some bullshit on distant rooves, some dickhead with a rocket launcher, and a whole bunch of dudes with assault rifles would be a tough fight even without the timer ticking away. Haven't had come to making it either trying to fight it out or sprint through so I guess I'm loading up my autosave from the start of Pripyat :waycool:

Well this is cool. Reloaded my Pripyat save and got back to the bar to stock up properly for the end run. I sided with Freedom in their fight with Duty on the way back from the brain scorcher, so now all the Duty dudes in the bar are hostile. No problem, cleared out both border checkpoints and the base, thought that was all of them. Except there's one Duty guy in the bar itself and apparently he's allowed to shoot me in there even though the game won't let me draw my gun. Better yet, he's either bugged or tethered to the bar itself and I can't kite him out. Luckily I already got most of my stuff out on the way through before he showed up in there but I still wanted to use the vendor.

Made it through the gauntlet this time. Planning better (helps when you know what you're going into) and looting a sniper rifle to pick off what turned out to be several rocket snipers made it a lot less difficult, but still pretty nailbiting. I hope in stalker 2 you get more government involvement so it's basically stalkers in the middle of army/mutant/mercs battling it out in waves. Be warned even with mods clearsky was kind of a mess, i'd just grab a minor overhaul mod then just run through it. It added a ton of new fun maps and redid a lot of the SoC maps which was fun but it wasn't worth the hell of trying to live with the weirdness. I would either do a clean run of it or skip it and go to CoP and play overhaul mods that use all of the maps. A great CS bug is loving homing grenades, legit every loving human enemy has grenades and will be throwing them non stop so the second you stop moving you're dead because even while moving they've tossed on ahead of you and if you don't keep moving it explodes. Think you're sneaking up? Wrong they've seen you and decided to throw a grenade instead of shouting in alarm.

I got to cordon, got wrecked by the machine gun post somehow seeing me through trees and long grass and destroying me before I even knew it was there, went back around and took the other way to cordon (great bit of game design there, have the game send the player into certain death and go "lol gotcha should have gone the way the game didn't send you"), got shot at by the stalkers under the bridge as I run down the hill to get past, made it to Sidorovich who reset the stalkers to neutral, got to the stalker base and got missions to take out a bandit camp and a military camp. Did the bandits first and the stalkers took the military objective out by themselves while I was at it. So now I'm back at stalker base with a mission to do the next military objective. Tried to solo it, killed most in a running battle but there's like 6 geared up guys vs me in a bandit jacket, the last one got me and I died. At some point during the fight I noticed on my radar the neutral stalkers under the bridge were hostile for some reason. I reloaded back to the stalker base and now the bridge stalkers are still hostile (pretty sure they weren't when I made the save, don't recall any issues getting to the military objective on the other side) along with half the other random stalkers around the map. The other half are still neutral. Anyone have any idea why they're hostile now? Did their hostility persist through reloading my old save? I noticed NPCs staying in combat mode after reloading saves in SoC so maybe hostility can too. Is killing these guys gonna make the rest of them mad? Am I supposed to wait for a stalker squad to attack the military guys? Because that seems like a really tough fight to solo. Waiting around doesn't sound very fun though.

Hahaha yeah that loving MG nest was a great way to give the player a big finger. The neutral stalkers being hostile might be due to you being so low in rep. Instead of them just all going hostile sometimes a percentage go hostile so it's possible to get it fixed without them all murdering you. I started in vanilla then quickly grabbed a community bug fix but minor as in you don't get weird reskins and anime girls running around haha. I figured you wanna just play through the story line.

Anomalies disguise system is so loving awesome haha, grabbed an ecologists suit because i was tired of being 1 shot by anomalies. I put the shoulder patch on while exploring dead city seeing as i don't remember the map and i'd get the drop on any mercs instead of them killing me on sight. I'm exploring this house in the middle of a field and i hear something running but nothings attacked me yet then i started getting shoved so i was in panic mode thinking a mutant spawned inside the house with me. Nope it was just 2 loving exo mercs trying to assassinate me but thankfully my disguise held so i didn't need to reload after having 2 exo suits hit me in a tiny house haha. The Alife script for that is really dumb though because they basically travel invisible through the zone to get to you but thanks to the 45m no spawn bubble you can turn on they'll pop down outside it.

The kill teams should be forced to spawn at the entrance to the map then walk to you instead of spawning outside the bubble then sprinting into your face haha. You can get lucky and not have them instantly aggro in which case you'll have them slowly make their way to you which is awesome because you can get hints as other stalkers call out that a loving monolith squad is in the garbage/cordon for some reason.

*A bonus with the confused kill team was i got a bodyguard of 2 neutral exo suits ensuring that i was safe!

Okay I appreciate your help and all but I have no idea what any of this means. I haven't encountered any kill teams yet. I'm still dicking around in Cordon. I killed the stalkers under the bridge then managed to clear the military guys out on my second attempt. This time I hung back more and sniped with my AK which worked a lot better than trying to sneak in after killing the two hill shooting guys outside and getting bum rushed by 5 or so more dudes that were all hiding upstairs. This time I was able to draw them all out, still went through several medkits but it worked. Then afterwards I read online that silencers reduce your ammo, range, and accuracy. I was using one the whole time (plus oh THE ENTIRITY OF THE PREVIOUS GAME) because the game gives you no indication of any drawbacks. Anyway killing those military dudes got me back on friendly terms with the stalkers so it all worked out.

Now I'm having fun with a bugged escort quest. Saved a dude from dogs and the objective changed to "escort the stalker" without saying where to. The guy got stuck in combat mode pointing his pistol over the out of bounds fence and crab walked all the way to the Dark Valley entrance where he stood with his gun pointing vaguely towards the dead bandits I left there earlier freeing some dude's brother. I've just saved and restarted the game which seems to have snapped him out of it, now I'm escorting him probably all the way back to the rookie village again. Sigh. I do like these games but there sure is a lot of frustrating jank to bitch about.

Last Fallout Overhaul, the mod recommended, seems to be an engine upgrade mostly. Apparently it's just improved vanilla with some expanded content, hence "minor overhaul", it redoes the whole game but without changing its fundamentals whereas something like Misery would be a major overhaul. The video linked does not explain what the mod does, it's just shows some gameplay. Clear Sky is normally recommended to be played with the Sky Reclamation Project, which is the CS version of Shadow of Chernobyl's Zone Reclamation Project, which is mostly bugfixes and minor rebalancing, the degree of which is customisable.

I think clear sky was before some devs left to make metro which is filled with scripted events that suck rear end. I enjoyed the controller behind you in SoC in the agroprom underground because it was supposed to push you into the military base but it got silly on later play throughs when you killed literally everything and it still spawned. I hate games like doom 3, metro, and dead space where there's a ton of scripted events that punish the player that likes to explore. I want to pile the bodies up in a corner knowing i've killed everything then explore at my leisure.

I recognize clear sky design in it so i'm guessing it was a tunnel to pripyat? I have a nice ruby ecologist suit now so i wanted to explore it but i don't wanna pop out in the middle of pripyat atm considering it's a hellish meat grinder in anomaly haha. Also is limansk really just cut in half like that? I got to the bridge in the middle but i couldn't see a way through it and ran into some invisible walls. Also gently caress the controllers wearing jackets, scared the crap outta me.

the metro devs actually during the development of the first game iirc.

limansk is indeed split up and has multiple invisible walls/lethal radiation hotspots because uhhhhhhhhhhh i guess that's what stalker needed

Nah that is clearly 2 multiplayer levels glued together haha still weird as hell. I killed a squad of monolith beyond the wall and i couldn't loot their bodies. I found that tunnel filled with the SIN guys in it and had an amazing fire fight where i ambushed 5 monolith and likely about 9 SIN dudes. I totally forgot about the clear sky story arc haha. There's about 6 stashes in radar so i'm going to brave it again though i should probably wait until i get a new suit because gently caress that radiation and all the goddamn mutants haha.
