Can I just check, Starmer's approval has got to be lower than Corbyn's ever was when all of those dickheads were screaming at him to resign, right?

Still, I'm sure they'll just say that's further evidence if Corbyn's shameless appealing to rampant populism. Keith however literally going up and down the country asking people what they want him to do and then doing it is not populism because reasons.

I mean I don't think he is going around asking people what they want him to do and then doing it, he's doing what he wants to do which is nothing except for cops cops cops, and is occasionally looking for people to tell him this is a good idea.

Nah Corbyn's personal ratings were pretty much always insanely low. Certainly went far lower than -18

I just think it would be fun to find all the journos currently saying Starmer just needs a relaunch at 30% approval who were saying back in 2017 / 2019 that Corbyn's position was untenable when it was higher than that.

I found one just now that was saying Corbyn was the least popular leader in history. Would love to see Keith beat that but consent manufacturer go brr I guess.

Think what Guav was going for is that the McD double cheeseburger was called the cheapest, most nutritious ubiquitous food in the world, which is more a reflection of its macro P/F/C split per dollar cost.

It's a very Freakonomics argument and is probably wrong, but it's hard to say it's totally incorrect in the specific case of the food-desertified USA.
It is a very Freakonomics argument, but I think at least in the 2000s it was true for both the US and UK that it was the cheapest, most nutritious ubiquitous food if you factor in your own time and also don't want to turn into a Huel goblin and/or be constantly making GBS threads your pants.

Only the biggest Forbes free marketeers* read that as "therefore eat nothing but cheeseberber er'ry day" though, even the Torygraph takes on it mentioned that "this is in part due to government subsidy, environmental practices, and some have claimed wage exploitation". But the cheap McD's stuff isn't more expensive than, say, Gregg's for what you get, just don't get either all day every day.

*the same ones that read that study about how obesity and smoking saves healthcare services money in aggregate because you die before all the expensive end of life poo poo and decided to interpret it as "if you're against adverts for tobacco and junk food you actually hate public health."

I assume it'd be pretty similar to the modern diet around the eastern Med except with a lot less salt and sugar and a lot more fish, so probably not the worst diet plan to follow.

Roman times if you just mean flatbread with tomoatoes and herbs, 18th century if you mean what we would consider the modern pizza. First introduced to the British in the reign of Victoria.

She's pretty divisive in the unite beurocracy and all the industrial officers I've ever spoken to about her think she's both a self-promoter and a legal time bomb waiting to go off but

the reason she's a legal time bomb waiting to go off is that she's a socialist who freely uses the word, and a couple of the big wins she's picked up in charge of the organising + leverage team almost certainly left Unite vulnerable to retaliatory legal action (it is heavy on the "leverage" side of things in a similar way that organised crime is heavy on the "leverage" side of things). Stunningly good anecdotes about it, though, and spying on rich people so we can ruin their lives when needed is basically my dream job.

I went for that poo poo Turner just because it was the left bloc vote after Beckett withdrew, but Graham definitely operates to his left whether she's a self-promoter or not.

McDonalds is expensive? I guess they do have pricier things but my go-to 'I'm very drunk and foolish' post-pub order was a 20 mcnugget sharebox and a big mac meal, which came to about 7 or 8 quid iirc and was plenty enough food to make you entirely regret your choices the following day. Burger King on the other hand is absurdly overpriced.

Lobster God posted:

I would love to try old school Roman food. Iirc they did have some pizza-like food sans the tomato, which I imagine was mostly cheesy herby bread covered in fish sauce and the like. Kinda crazy that an ingredient not seen in Europe till the late 1400s has become so totally symbolic of a whole nation's food culture and most of the stuff from that place that came before has been forgotten.

I've been thinking of trying to recreate old British food, which mostly used parsnips where we'd now use potato. I actually think a shepherd's pie or something would work really well.
