This is what it's like having actual OCD and hearing everybody without a personality in school and workplaces attempt to fabricate one as a quirky "my OCD!" person when they line their pencils up.

You don't have to go back very far in media to see that what writers think is hilarious is about to be in really poor taste - ace ventura wasn't that long ago and pretty sure the joke of that whole movie was that someone was trans or something.

I have mild OCD that's still enough to mess up my life when I'm in familiar environments and have lost count of the time I've had to tell someone that, no, being neat is not OCD.

Being neat and making things tidy is a pleasant thing. You get a feeling of accomplishment once you're done.

Being OCD and not being able to stop is distressing.

I always imagined OCD being like trying to beat Tetris. It just comes faster and harder until you lose, no matter how good you get at it.

I think of it like having a mental checkbox for doing things.

When a normal person does something, like lock their door before leaving home, the box gets checked and they're free to continue on to the next thing.

With OCD it's like, no matter how many time you make sure that door is locked, the box simply refuses to get checked off and you're stuck there unable to move on until it does.

With some people, they may have a specific count, "turn door handle seven times" to check that mental box. Others can get stuck in a loop and suddenly find themselves unable to move on over the stupidest, most unimportant thing because it's been five minutes now and you still can't step away from the door.

EDIT: I don't want to seem like I'm gatekeeping being OCD here, saying "it has to be like this". I'm sure many people with OCD get slightly miffed rather than upset, just as some others can totally mentally "short circuit" for lack of a better term.

Being very neat might well be considered a form of OCD by psychiatrists. I'm not a mental health professional, I'm just some bloke on the internet.

Not a Dickman, just a shape
I have "severe enough to be a thing, not hugely life altering" tourettes

I distinctly remember laughing at the Tourette's jokes in all manner of 90s comedies and south park and the like. And then kinda realising "wait, that's me" when I was in a shopping mall , saw this

And shouted " Dicks! Dicks! Dicks! "

Couldn't help but have a sense of humour about it and realise it was a part of me

The license plate is rather obscured, probably to prevent camera recognition. That's a violation in itself, and I doubt the owner was particularly cooperative when questioned about it.

There's probably more to this story than the banner in the back window.

Ed: https://mcdowellnews.com/news/photo-of-marion-man-s-truck-goes-viral-driver-says/article_675685c6-fdb1-11e5-b5dd-c37715655714.html

quote:

The driver of the truck, Legend Deon Pressley, 20, of Hillbilly Heights, Marion, was arrested at the intersection of U.S. 70 West and U.S. 221 North Thursday around 6:30 p.m. for failure to appear on an outstanding warrant on a window tint violation, according to a report from the Marion Police Department.

Pressley told The McDowell News Friday he only had the sticker on for about five hours when he was stopped by police.

So the guy had excessive tinting on his windows, was cited for it, then failed to appear in court about it. Afterwards, he bought the window sticker, apparently to draw attention to himself and make sure he got arrested for failing to appear.

There are plenty in the village where I live and the sight of maybe a dozen of them roosting in the same tree is quite something.

At my local zoo there is a peacock that roams uncaged at his leisure throughout the park. He eats all sorts of snacks from people and generally walks around like some untouchable made man.

In my head I like to think the other animals hate him and hold him in some deep contempt for his freedom. I also like to believe he is an insufferable douche and has no friends.

Otherwise I am pretty sure I am a normal human being.

Lots of zoos have these, because peacocks are very adaptable to most climates, and can tend and feed for themselves with little input from the staff.

Hell, there's a neighborhood a few cities over from me here in Canada where peacocks have just set up in the suburbs and are quite content to live in peoples yards. They've tried trapping them, but they never get them all, and population booms every spring. No ones quite sure where they originally came from, but it's assumed they were left behind at any number of nearby farms when the owners moved, and now they just remain in the area. Many residents are upset, but reporters talked to several people who said they had purposely moved to the neighborhood to live near the peacocks.

Peacocks put all their points into appearance and made speech the dump stat. They make one noise and they make it constantly and they make it at maximum volume and it is a strong contender for worst noise out of an animal.
