MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — It has been a scary month in the hospital for a woman who contracted COVID-19. She said the near-death experience has her rethinking some of the bad things she thought about the vaccine. "I never imagined it would happen to me," Nicki Collins said. "I was in the hospital twice; very close to being ventilated." Collins said she has a lot of fear after this brush with death. The 48-year-old thought about her life before COVID-19 wreaked havoc and tried to put together the pieces of a life that has been shattered. "I'm relatively young, healthy and work out five to six times a week," Collins said. "I never imagined it would do this to my body." However, Collins said she chose not to get vaccinated. She said she was treated with convalescent plasma and Remdesivir. "I've always been anti-vaccine, I'm more of a natural health person. I have trusted my immune system. This has made me question that," she said. The FDA gave full approval to the Pfizer vaccine Monday, undergoing rigorous testing and review. Collins said she is still considering if she wants to be vaccinated. "I need to do more research and figure out what that looks like. My husband did get vaccinated because of this," she said. There is a slow change of heart. "I'm definitely hesitant but I'm leaning towards it," she said. Collins wants no one else to experience the unimaginable. "Social distance, wear a mask, and do whatever it takes to avoid this," she said. The CDC recommends vaccinations for those who are eligible.

But unless you live near Anchorage or maybe Fairbanks you are pretty hosed anyway since most of the villages have a paramedic at best and even the regional hubs just have a small hospital that might not even have a single ICU bed.

Catching up on the thread:PDP-1 posted:Anyone know if placebo shots make your arm hurt? My friends got their kids into one of the vaccine trials and are trying to figure out if they can tell if they get the real shot or are in the control group. Here's the FDA's fact sheet on the adverse reactions during the Pfizer trials when they applied for EUA status, including reactions from the placebo group : https://www.fda.gov/media/144413/download Mild and moderate reactions for pretty much all types of adverse reaction were common in the placebo group, and in some cases (mild/moderate diarrhea, moderate/severe vomiting) were even more common.

did some napkin math. the coworker was here with their kid on the 18th (Wednesday). out 19 and 20 with a sick kid. presumably symptoms appeared around there. back today, says no fever still has cough/sneeze, but no PTO is a solid motivating factor to be cured asap. well. i guess we're going to see real soon what the outcome is since i'm the only person that took the slut juice in this office of ~12 people.

I know the answer is "because they're dumb, no further elaboration required" but I really don't get why the Q/antivax crowd fixated on an anti-parasitic medication for anti-viral purposes and how most people can''t look at that discrepancy at the face of it and say "obviously this won't work"
