Actually seeing more shots of the neutral white lighting, it does look better. Not as harsh as I first thought. It does look like it could just be color grading and some bloom or something, I don't have the eye to tell properly. I'm semi-hopeful strange new worlds turns out all right. I hope they feel like they've covered their serialised action bases with Disco and Picard and intentionally have this be episodic and lighter on action. Otherwise, I don't see the point in the show existing. roomtone fucked around with this message at 13:51 on Aug 27, 2021 |

Look how much better the rear displays are in that blue/green instead of all the lights being uniformly blue.

All good points but how else are we supposed to know it’s futuristic and cool if everything isn’t bathed in an edgy blue light?

I haven't watched it a second time yet to verify but I feel like in the dialogue she was counting DS9 as a "ship" and maybe just using "ships" as shorthand for "postings" I guess DS9 is kind of a ship. It did move that one time

I am expecting there to be a joke where Mariner says something offhand about turning 35 or something and the others are confused because they thought she was the same age as them.

These screenshots are all from Discovery, right? I wonder if they slapped the blue on there to make the Enterprise fit that show’s aesthetic and won’t be doing it in Strange New Worlds.

My favorite joke that nobody's brought up yet is that they spent a good solid thirty seconds of runtime hammering in "YES, THRESHOLD IS CANON, TOM PARIS BROKE THE TRANSWARP BARRIER AND TURNED INTO A LIZARD". Easily the best part of the whole "turns out Boimler is a huge Voyager fan" bit, although "yeah I call it VOY, saves time" is a close second. I want them to talk about the NX-01 at some point so I can find out if Boimler calls it ENT.

The Orions were/are one of the bad guys in the prior Star Trek and they still somehow are acceptable recruits for the Starfleet. Earlier their society had no redeeming factors whatsoever since they were pro-slavery, kidnapped people from colonies and stole stuff from bases and fleetyards that were inadequately protected. They haven't been the slaver pirates for over five years when the LDS takes place, so yeah.
