I had never seen Catalina Caper before. What a god drat bizarre movie, it felt like they had maybe half a movie and then just stretched it out to 90 minutes and stopped. Traditionally scripts should have some kind of logical progression but this just kinda meandered around for an hour and a half before ending.

I feel like this is a normal progression for most beach movies but I've only ever looked at a small sample size.

60s comedy.txt. The 60s in general were an odd time in film making and they were trying out all sorts of things, and pacing got real bad sometimes. If you want to see the problems of this film on a grand scale, go watch its a mad mad mad mad mad world, which is like this, probably a bit funnier, but also over three hours long. If you think marvel movies rely too much on the 40 minute fight at the end, 60s comedies tended to do that with slapstick chase scenes. Mad world is that end of movie chase scene dragged into infinite.

this was in the podcast PFT does with Lauren Lapkus and Scott Aukerman, Threedom. it's paywalled on Stitcher Premium, but I think they release seasons for free a few months after the end of the season (which was this week). second to last episode of season 3, iirc.

the upshot is that they had him audition and he cracked up the woman, and then when they had him film, it was the same woman -- they had both been auditioning, and the producers hosed up and paired them again for the show. she'd already heard his entire bit and so she did not laugh.

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World was my favorite movie when I was about ten, but even back then, I knew it was too long for its own good.

As for other famous people in MST movies, The Giant Spider Invasion has Alan "The Skipper from Gilligan" Hale Jr. And of course The Magic Sword has Gary Lockwood, Estelle Winwood, and "an embarrassed Basil Rathbone". (Rathbone is my second-favorite Sherlock Holmes, he's surpassed only by Jeremy Brett.)

Christopher Lee in Fu Manchu and Raul Julia in Overdrawn at the Memory Bank

While not from the west, Sonny Chiba and Chikao Ohtsuka (who played and was the Japanese voice of Krankor from Prince of Space) were pretty well known actors in Japan as well.

All of the above are sadly no longer with us

As there are some awful ones that could be riffed on.

Also anyone watching the Mindless Summer live events on the MST3K YT channel?
Found it last night for first time, and its excellent watching them talk and discuss episodes.

He was an early 60s teen heart throb who mostly appeared in Disney stuff.

Edit: he was later fired from Disney when it came out he was gay.

Yup, it's an even weirder movie for someone like me who has a deep and intimate connection with the movie's primary location, I should do a post going over all the specific parts of the island they visit and such
