Why do New Jersey and New York have significantly higher deaths rates from COVID than Florida does? Is that just lag in reporting deaths in FL? This is the data I'm looking at:

New York: 54,751 deaths 2,339,058 cases
Florida: 43,979 deaths 3,246,196 cases

New York: #2 deaths per 1 mil pop. @ 2,814
Florida: #19 deaths per 1 mil pop. @ 2,048

New York: #28 cases per 1 mil pop. @ 120,238
Florida: #3 cases per 1 mil pop. @ 151,142

Florida is absolutely lying, last year there was an investigative reporter that was talking about deaths in The Villages and she offhandedly mentioned some number of deaths in the community at that point (late summer IIRC) that amounted to around 10% of the reported population of the community having died from covid. None of which was reported accurately in the official numbers.

The reporter could have been wrong, of course, but I'd trust the word of someone on the ground over a state government that depends on pretending things are still normal for tourism to continue.

There was next to no testing in the first wave and cases were way undercounted. I'm sure you can back calculate using a ballpark cfr

Also the blue states shoved covid patients into nursing homes and ignored that it would spread there and got thousands of old people killed and never took a second of responsibility for their terrible decision

Florida is definitely undercounting cases right now , their cfr is through the roof. But deaths probably aren't any more under counted there than anywhere else, they just didn't try to empty the nursing homes straight into funeral parlors like the northeast and Illinois did

This is a big talking point in Pennsylvania right now, "Tom Wolf put covid positive people in nursing homes and it killed people," and it's a lie of omission that depends on the listener assuming that random people with covid were being shoved into nursing home populations. This was not the case.

Infectious covid patients were being put into nursing homes to make more space in hospitals. There's no worse decision to make than that. Even if you were an idiot who said "being safe is stupid" and thought it was pure fomite transmission, nursing homes were STILL the worst place to put infectious people since people with Alzheimer's and everything else weren't going to be able to be as safe around each other

Information like that is so easily distorted by political/capital influences that it makes comparisons a futile exercise.

Who is overseeing and/or auditing "cause of death" conclusions in a state where the leaders endorse policies that increase spread and exposure? Especially a year after they fired a health data specialist that tried to whistleblow, then threatened her, had cops raid her house, and had her in jail at some point.

If Excess Death is tracked on a state-by-state month-to-month level then I'd use that as a point of comparison. If the difference between covid death and excess death is significant then there's good reason to investigate further.

I can't speak for New York, but "Tom Wolf put covid patients in nursing homes to die" is a chud talking point in PA and it is a lie.

The lie depends on the listener assuming that random people were being left in nursing homes to die.

The people discharged to nursing homes with covid were residents of those nursing homes. The nursing home's job was to isolate and protect those patients and they failed.

C'mon PFC there is no lie, there's two parties that committed reckless neglect:

- the abysmal protocols within nursing homes that pre-dated the pandemic;

- the failure of government to intervene when the pandemic began, and ensure that all necessary measures were taken before transferring infected patients to their home/residence.

Edit: And this occurred in tons of metropolises. Montréal had dozens die at a single nursing care facility in March/April 2020.

I'm sure the PA chuds twisted the truth into "government implanted the covid in suicide bomber old folks to scare us into compliance" or whatever, but that being bullshit doesn't diminish the harm done by neglectful leadership.

It will never happen of course, but manslaughter charges would be justified against...well like half of elected officials that had influence on health care and NPI policies.

Why does that matter at all

If there's a plague you shouldn't be shoving the plague people into the riskiest place for spread even if that's where they were originally from. Put them in a quarantine hotel or a field hospital or anywhere else. A campsite. Not nursing homes

If public officials get to wash their hands of ant responsibility because "this is how things were before" then those officials jobs shouldn't exist
