Black summer was the best summer.
Aren't gaming companies required to link their customers logins to china's system that makes monitoring how much they play trivial? How effective is vpning from china? I am sure there are ways around it, but none of them sound very convenient and it seems like people might be underestimating this change.

Marvellous! I pledge my mediocrity to the cause.

The only thing worth taking into account is that if you join GEWNS in-game, you will immediately become a target to most of the rest of the game, a large portion of which is in highsec and spaces-not-Delve.

There is definitely content to do out in our space, but you will probably not want to stick around doing missions after joining. If you want to get your feet under you in hisec for a little while, there are a few high-security divisions of groups that are goons-adjacent (Karmafleet University, ascee university, others)

I think the best way to learn Eve is to move to nulsec, but I haven't played the new player experience in a decade so I don't know how much it has improved.

It makes me a bit sad to see the glorious goonwiki so out of date on so many things. A lot of the ship pages haven't been updated since 2016 and it feels like it lacks a lot of the more recent changes to the game. I don't know gently caress-all about anything in the game anymore, so can't even do my part to help out.

Out here, everything hurts.

Since coming back I've been kind of enjoying trying a bunch of the different newbish player experiences and running the career lines. I've done a bunch of lower tiered abyssals (and lost a Gila in a T4 due to my own stupidity and lack of research) and even some mining.

Still not sure if I'll stick to the game this time and rejoin the swarm, but I've now sent a brand new player I met while doing mining, and one higher level abyssal runner to Karmafleet, ruining their Eve experience forever I'm sure.

I remember contributing a lot to the moon mining and t2 production pages pre-structure/goo changes and then when structure changes happened I just gave up.

I also was hesitant to remove fittings from ship pages because I just didn’t feel like an authority to say some of the 10 year old fits were garbage or deprecated.

That wiki is a trove of knowledge but so much is now archaic, and the biggest issue is a LOT of language needs to be changed and it is overwhelming when it is crowd sourced without much guidance.

Standardized templates to use, plus language editors are specifically needed.

The wiki is in such a sad state that it's probably going to be easier to start a new one from scratch, and archive the current one so we can bring content over.

Yes, I know this is what happened with Confluence, but I think it's pretty unlikely the software will change - just a lot of the cruft and junk will get left behind.

The wiki is more of a lore book than anything. The needed articles like joining up, who’s who, and how to get on comms are up to date. There is almost no need for anything else as all the relevant and up to date info on ship fits et. al. Are in their own forum subsections and posts.

The wiki itself is actually unnecessary.

I hate looking for the magical forum post that contains the fit I need to check, click on spoiler tags to expand, scroll for about a year, find the fit, import fit, then add skills to the queue.

That is a bunch of work to find out I can't fly [INSERT SHIP].

u can just do this all in-game now

one click to simulate fitting and it immediately gives a display of what skills are lacking and how long to train them even

They're complaining about searching for the fits on the GSF forums. "import fit", from their post, is what you're saying.

The fit validation tool has pretty much all doctrine fits ready for copy/paste, that saves a fair amount of forum digging.

Searching a forum vs searching the wiki for fits isn't really a debatable from a usability standpoint, the wiki is just better for this(but out of date). I assume that the folks who make the effort posts for doing fits don't want to or don't have access to just update the wiki with the fit, but its just worse not to have them there.

It would be super duper cool if these fits were just managed in game with the tools already provided, but it seems its only at the corp level and that is even more :effort:. Until they make an alliance fittings section, you are at the mercy of those in your corp to make it easier on you.

It's more "don't want to" coupled with the inability to make it so some random ASCEE doofus can't go in and gently caress with the page.
