Was the 3M 8212 ever looked at by the thread? It's not a full fledged respirator but it has the same faceseal thing that the half masks do. https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/7379O/particulate-respirators-8212-and-8512-n95.pdf Looking at them for family that don't want to go with a respirator.

the vaccines are still quite effective after as much as a year, though obviously delta hasn't been around that whole time so we don't know everything. my take is that since it will inevitably be a huge pain in the rear end not to have the booster recorded, and I don't feel like getting four shots in 9 months because we have no data on that, I'm just keeping my risk low by being careful behaviorally and wearing a good mask.

I'd say that's an upgrade from a surgical or cloth mask, but it's also only N95, as opposed to a P100 cartridge on a respirator but if it gets your folks to wear a (better) mask, I'd say go for it
