We truly are a beer-driven economy.

I don't typically pull ships off routes once they are established. It saves money in the long run to just build spare ships to use for errands.

I haven't! Honestly I usually just try to beeline for investors. I find that by the time I get there I have more money than I know what to do with anyway. And yeah sewing machines are busted in Docklands. Especially once you get the various specialists that give bonus goods during sewing machine production.

When a residence is selected, you can hover over the various items to see what benefit that are/will give you. You can use this to prioritize easier items that will give you the most bang for your effort.

Also never ignore the Happiness buildings. For a little upfront investment, you can raise your income quite a bit.

We were having worker and supply issues keeping us from building another ship easily, so we were using our flagship to do hops runs until we could get another schooner up and running.

Unfortunately, we occasionally had to pull it off the route to deal with pirate ships.

I'm not clear on how the happiness buildings work. I build a Pub next to each Marketplace, and I put in a Church here and there, but it's not apparent how much it's affecting.

Do happier people spend more?

You can see the range of those service buildings by selecting them. A green overlay will appear on all roads that are in range of the service. This range can be extended by items, the palace/admin and most importantly, brick roads.

Happier people spend a LOT more.

It means it gives less than 100% value. The lighter it is the less the need/desire is satisfied.

The lighter green area means "not quite satisfied".

For "Needs"/required item this is a big deal. If that satisfaction isn't 100% then that house can't be upgraded.

For the "Wants"/luxury items its not a huge deal. If an Artisan only gets 90% of the bonus from a Variety Theater he'll still give a bunch of cash and lose the malus for having zero of that happiness source.

Anyways, last (oh please let this be the last) DLC is out! Also a free weekend (closer to a free week) for anyone you know who wants to try the game out!

I built a colony there while my wife kept things running back home, and we did a pretty good job of it except for all the loving pirates. We eventually bribed Anne to leave us alone for a while. She just churns out gunboats nonstop, and while our navy can beat them, it takes so much time away from everything else. Now in the New World there's another pirate, but so far he hasn't seemed interested in attacking me.

If you do end up remaining hostile with a pirate faction, it's generally wise to park a military ship or three on any chokepoints between islands they tend to journey through. Of course it depends on terrain layouts but often there's only a few directions they'll come at your cargo ships from, assuming you haven't spread out all across the old world.

Orion, this is Sperglord Actual.
Come on home.
Someone needs to magic wand up a mod that makes 4 versions of Trelawney but they are 4 different regions all on one map, and maybe throw in the various NPCs. I get real tired of region swapping now and it kills my interest in this otherwise incredible game.

If you have all of the DLCs there are five:

Old World
New World
Cape Trelawny (basically Old World 2.0)
Arctic
Enbessa (East Africa).

Have fun!

No seriously if you're overwhelmed, I highly suggest just playing without any AIs and maybe no pirates. Just a chill city builder. Sort of a chill classic Sim City like experience...only with ships! I do suggest you get up to Engineers and see the wrinkles they introduce at least once though before you restart.

In some ways I can understand how overwhelming it could be. 1404 after all was one map, split half-half into two regions and 2070 was one map with an above and below water region. I never played 2205 so 1800 was my first multi-map anno but I already had 90% of it under my belt with 2070 and 1404.

2205 was nuts with multi-map. With all the DLC, you had 4 regions - Temperate, Arctic, Lunar and Tundra, but each region excluding Tundra was split into multiple maps. (Albeit not as big as a normal Anno map)

just set things up so your home island can run without you looking at it for a while and mess around with the new map. Ur dudes back in the old world can live without rum and once you wrap you head around the new buildings and the fun terrain challenges of the new worlds you can start interregional trade

This latest update with the High Life seems super buggy for me. Several crashes so far, and all sorts of quest and proximity triggers aren't firing. I started a new session, and can barely progress since Fuckface McGee wants 4 Schnapps, but won't trigger that I have it even with more than 4 in storage. Anne Harlowe doesn't even show up on the diplomacy screen either.

Glad I had some work obligations come up to prevent me from spinning up a new game, sounds like they have some stuff to iron out.

I had my best game ever going and I was sticking to it. Had reached all the sessions, was working on oil production and exports, had a palace, a lot of stuff. Then I took a break because of work, then I extended the break until Tourist DLC came out, and never got back to it. So now I think I definitely need to start up a new game to try and figure out all the new DLC stuff.

Regardless, if anyone's following the thread and is on the fence about trying 1800, it's a great chance to try it out.

My wife and I are enjoying the hell out of it, but we just had a friend ask us if we wanted to start a new Astroneer game with her, so... back to my first love builder game, at least part-time!

Then overproduce beer in the Old World and set a Schooner on an auto trade route to sell her all the surplus and she's gonna be your best friend and money source forever.

Docklands: You place down a harbor version of the Palace. Doing so means every 20 minutes Captain Tobias will come by with a ship to trade Cataan style (X wood for Y sheep) depending on the value of what you're offering/asking for. Obviously later tier goods are worth more. As you trade you'll unlock more modules to pop down, most of these act like smaller but more expensive versions of the old harbor buildings. They also add +15 appeal to your island if they're connected in a chain back to the main Docklands (which itself gives +150 appeal) building encouraging you to build a sprawling Docklands district. Also you can build roads in the harbor area and move stuff out into the ocean.

You can build a harbor district/docklands in every single Old World/Trelawny island so it can get very silly.

Tourist Season: Now instead of just day-visitors you have hotels to hold tourists that just VOMIT CASH. They're needy, but they're excellent for just throwing money at you. They also offer dining buildings that will give your normal residents bonus happiness and reduce how much they need of various consumables. The dining buildings (and the Tourist chemical plants/orchards needed to make their special goods) have multiple recipes you select. Oh and if you have the tourist "workforce" to staff them (the conceit is you need enough visitors for the bar/cafe/restaurant to stay open) you can totally overlap the dining buildings and have multiple recipes/house specials affecting your city.

High Life: Build skyscrapers for your Engineers and Investors, and feed them new and exotic needs.
