Was Andy Richter really good, or did he just look better because he was playing against Wolf Blitzer?

Andy is absolutely intelligent and kicked serious rear end, and the only reason he wasn't the champion was because he had to pull out for Conan's US tour after the Tonight Show debacle.

Ed: Andy also still holds the record won in a single game by a celebrity, a whopping $68,000

Wolf Blitzer is actually an OK Jeopardy player he just fell apart when facing an exceptionally good one.

I mean, unfortunately he taped a few episodes before they canned him, so we're kind of stuck with (I think) one lovely week of that rear end in a top hat?

When the hell are they going to announce the new permanent host for us to complain about?

I agree. He was the best host of the lot in my opinion and it wasn't close. He won't get it since Sony want a household name but he looked like he'd done it for years.

So do the majority of the commentors on the J! Facebook page which I am reading religiously because I have a lot of issues.

I really, desperately hope they hire Buzzy instead of waiting for Biyalik to become available full-time.

Well that's my story.
Were the guest hosts always competing for the permanent host position (whether they wanted it or not) or did that start after Mike Richards began leaking what a great job he did?

I guess i.thought the guest hosts were (a) a way to finish out the current season while a new host was selected/contracts negotiated, and (b) to provide a little buffer so the new host wasn't directly following Trebek.

I honestly don’t think they ever spelled it out 100%, which lack of transparency added to the poo poo show.

It sounds like it was a mix of

A) people who just wanted to guest host to help fill out the season
B) people who were trying out and actually believed it was a real competition
C) people trying out but could smell the Mike Richard's scam coming a mile away

OldSenileGuy
Mar 13, 2001
It’s really weird because A) I never really liked Buzzy as a contestant and B) I never really liked him as a social media “personality” / semi-famous Jeopardy person, but I thought he did a great job as host and would be fine with him getting the gig. Like everyone else said it’s very unlikely, but he’s a top tier option.

They were never competing though some may have thought that. It was a ratings stunt that they at some point gave the impression was a tryout and when the awful choice the higher ups wanted from the beginning couldn't step into the permanent spot due to scheduling Michael Richards slid into the spot (which originally came off as him overseeing a tryout and then selecting himself). With each revelation the whole thing somehow kept getting dumber and dumber and dumber.

I’ll be honest , we won’t watch them. I think we’ll suck it up and watch Mayim , but gently caress the Richards episodes.

I do think it’s good to air them both for continuity and also for the contestants that had the bad luck to both be on for those episodes and also run into Matt, but that doesn’t mean I have to give them ratings.

There was a very obvious cut after RIchards introduced the announcer. It must've been where his speech about being so grateful for getting the job was. Starting the show with Trebek's family felt like a really weasely thing to do too.

Remember, they were there, alongside Ken and Buzzy, and a bunch of Sony Television execs, to dedicate the studio in Trebek’s memory on Mike’s first day of taping.

The NYT reported that Ken and Buzzy were then subsequently barred from the audience in taping and were escorted to a Green Room to watch it on video instead, because Mike Richards said having them there “made him too nervous”.

Jimmy (pre Covid and with Alex there) did a lot of the contestant warm ups for the day. Pre Covid at least, when you’re on jeopardy they do a mock game in the morning so everyone can get used to the buzzer and feeling being up there. They have people rotate as the game goes on, so you basically get about 4-8 practice questions, which def helps.

He ran it when my wife was on, and yeah he did a great job so I agree they should have given him a spin.

Glenn, one of the producers, was who ran it for me back in 2014, but I think he had been let go by Mike by the time your wife was on, or at least had left of his own accord.
