After having no teams in California during their existence, the league will now have two next year as San Diego will be joining the league alongside their northern neighbors Angel City FC. Former USWNT head coach Jill Ellis will serve as president. Also, the Reign-Thorns game on August 29th is going to be a double-header with the Sounders-Timbers at Lumen Field, so the league attendance record is going to get smashed to hell.

Italy beat the Netherlands today in a friendly, in traditional late 90s Italian fashion. 1-0 penalty in the first 15. Italy was actually the better team imo; couple of good chances went begging or were defended well. In particular there was an a awesome backheel pass to Serturini who ran all the way to the touch line and put in a good cross that Bonansea managed to make a mess of in the face of the keeper. Anyway it was a better match than the Roma - Milan cup final a week or so ago which was a disaster from start to interminable end of penalty kicks.

In other NWSL news, a 15 year old sued the league over it's age limit requirement and won an injunction, allowing the Thorns to sign her for a 3 year deal. Now if only my team would stop sucking so much

Reign. Last game against Sky Blue was so goddamn painful to watch since they weren't particularly threatening in front of goal and gave up 3 counterattacking goals. The latter is more worrying since giving up soft goals has been a rather recurring theme this season and having a bunch of attackers who play on national teams isn't going to fix that.

The broadcast window is 9 AM Pacific/12 PM Eastern but CBS is pushing the decision to NWSL and saying that it was NWSL's decision to put it in Portland. There are also people complaining about Portland hosting a final when they have artificial turf and a final should be hosted in a grass turf field.
