I bought Cookie Clicker on steam because I haven't played it since before minigames were added and was almost immediately reminded of how much I hated the "you must bank hours of cookie production to get anything out of half the golden cookies" mechanic. Someone please let me know if anybody's modded that out yet.

The grimoire is cool (though most of the spells seem like garbage compared to spawning golden cookies on demand) but the pantheon looks disappointing. Either make it much faster to switch or remove the downsides from most of them, it doesn't need both since the opportunity cost is already interesting.

I guess that's the other thing I didn't like about CC - every mechanic feels unnecessarily punishing in some way.

Yeah, I think the biggest problem I have with the pantheon is how much the recharge time scales. If you're only missing 1 charge it takes an hour to refill, which is honestly fine! But using up all 3 charges makes it take 16 hours to get a single charge back, which is...nuts.

Well, "playing." I've had the thing running all day checking in every once in a while. I've never been into idle games but picked this one up out of nostalgia because I got obsessed with it back in the day. Was stoked to see this version offered minigames, but discovering it was just extra stuff you slot in with negatives and cooldowns instead of actual minigames was super disappointing (at least for temples and towers, can't be arsed to figure out farming and haven't unlocked the bank one). After 3.5 ingame days of alternately having it open on the side to click golden cookies and leaving it alone for hours I'm already super bored with how long everything is taking. Was "number go up" faster back in the day? I honestly can't remember; probably not. It was neat to revisit and I'm glad orteil's getting a payday, but 50/50 on whether I check out before things get interesting :unsmigghh:

it was not and the entire game needs at least an order of magnitude speedup if you're not botting golden cookies, which is still my biggest complaint about it

I supposedly unlocked hepteracts in Synergism, but it doesn't seem to have actually done anything. Are the Hepteracts of the Abyss a different resource with a similar name? Because despite ascending while allegedly earning some, it still says I have 0 for any of the Platonic upgrades. I'm at 1e14 C15 exponent and only make like 9e6 hypercubes a second, and would need 1e14 for the next upgrade even if I got one of the hepteracts of the abyss. I no longer see any real path to advancement.

You got a new option on the cube menu to craft hept cubes from your hept shards. There's many types and you will unlock more.

Break time so the game is running like 12x faster with the first one getting the other ones roughly as they are affordable. When you have enough Quarks make sure you are investing in that hept because breaking that is going to let you go ham in the shop.

Cube menu is the first place I looked. There isn't a new tab, and I don't see any new options in the existing ones. Even letting the "you will gain x heptaracts" thing pool up to 100k before ascending didn't open up anything new that I was able to find. Like, unless the thing is lying about gaining them at 6.66e16 points and I actually need to be above 1e17 like when I unlocked it, I'm stumped.

Yeah it's a little weird, but also kinda nice in a way. When you do finally unlock the hepteract forge, you'll have a good chunk of them to start with.

The grind to omega is making me quickly lose interest in the game though. Another wall where you're supposed to do a 24h cube run, a blessing/spirit run, and a C15 run, repeat, all for marginal gains, for like 7-10 days straight. That's just too long to have no significant boosts or changes coming in, and I remember having the same feeling when I quit Realm Grinder back in the day.

You'll want to install Cookie Monster. Steam support is a bit WIP and it seems later mechanics break a bit. So if you're importing an existing save it might have issues, but I'm starting from scratch and it's been fine so far.

I also threw together a mod to make Golden Cookie profits simpler. Basically getting rid of the "read a wiki to find out that you need to avoid spending cookies" gimmick.

I do agree with everybody's criticisms of the game, of course. Especially since offline earning needs to be unlocked through ascension, so you spend a really long time just running the game and developing a Pavlovian response to Golden Cookies.

I can't figure out what this actually does based on the explanations you've given. It sounds like you do still need a huge bank to actually increase the benefit of lucky cookies, and if it doesn't work with buffs does that mean it doesn't help with frenzied lucky cookies at all?

I remember playing the beta version dungeons and they were even worse than any of the current minigames. You literally just turned on auto-explore and got an insignificant trickle of cookies from it. There was a good reason they didn't make it into the game.

Should I always be doing 4 star runs in the future, including through the next prestige levels, or is there some benefit to mixing in 0 star runs? Along those lines, if I'm always doing 4 star runs, does that mean I can ignore the advice of keeping ~250 Plasmids banked up?

Wow, it took me a couple of ascensions to appreciate just how fully the sell-buildings-for-a-buff god destroys CC's old progression rate. Being able to turn every click frenzy/dragon flight/elder frenzy into that + a better frenzy is just crazy. No point trying to do slow stuff like RNG all the season cookies for achievements when all it takes is one or two of those to 10x your ascension.

Actually, I'm beginning to think banking cookies is completely unnecessary now. With how easy they are to hit I bet I've gotten 95% or more of my cookies from frenzy combos and the occasional cookie storm.

I think if you can comfortably do the stars you might as well do the stars. The benefits to not doing them is just easier runs, or you want to push further out for a different prestige.

I got it working with buffs on Monday, actually! What it does now is each time you get a lucky effect, or cast Conjure Baked Goods, it saves your current amount of cookies permanently. Then it uses that value instead of the "you get more the more you have" system. So now you only need to build a bank if your CPS has increased a lot.

But it's probably a lot less impactful than...

1) The advantage to doing 2-3 atar runs is that they’re faster, pretty significantly. If you get bored of 4-star runs then do a 2-star of something you haven’t done before as a way to take a break, but otherwise generally stick to 4-stars. This is not the optimal way to play, but it is easier and more straightforward.
2) Absolutely not. You should always have at least enough plasmids to hit your softcap, no question about it. If 250 plasmids is an amount that matters, then you’re too early for it to be trivial to get back up to it if you want 250. I understand the logic that if you’re running sans plasmid bonus then you should be fine but spending them immediately will eventually burn you and it’s such a relatively small pain to just hold on to at least 250.

This one makes the game fun for me - it maxxes resources and builds however many buildings you paste into the section where "basic_housing" is set to 100. Different building names are different for each run, and you MUST NOT script in a building that unlocks a feature before building one by hand. If you do, just set its count back to zero.

var obj = JSON.parse(LZString.decompressFromUTF16(localStorage.getItem('evolved')));
for (prop in obj.resource) {
if(obj.resource.hasOwnProperty(prop)) {
if(obj.resource[prop].amount > 0) {
if(obj.resource[prop].max > 0) {
obj.resource[prop].amount = obj.resource[prop].max;
} else {
obj.resource[prop].amount += 999999;
}
}
}
}
obj.city.basic_housing.count = 100;

I think it's generally enough to just quickly sell-all your three or four cheapest buildings. Selling more increases the buff but doesn't reset the duration, so if you spend several seconds clicking buildings instead of the cookie it quickly becomes a net loss.

And sometimes you might click buy 100 one too many times while trying to do it twice during a click frenzy and wipe out most of your cookies for minimal gain, oops.

It's a powerful mechanic but a pretty awkward one.
