I enjoy having LP videos playing on a spare monitor when I'm working, usually laid-back colony builder type games (Surviving Mars and Frostpunk, notably). What doesn't help me relax is watching LPers flail around making stupid decisions and being confused because they didn't read what the tooltop just told them, or ignore the flashing notification, or have the attention span of a squirrel on meth and forget what they were about to do and leave a task uncompleted for a whole video.

Anyone have some suggestions for LPers (or just some notable LPs) for these kinds of games who aren't dumb? YouTube for preference, I don't want to bother messing with livestreams.

I will have the affrontery to note that in the early days of my channel I did a Frostpunk LP shortly after launch which I think fits this description, although I'll let others assess my intellect or lack thereof :). Due to when it was recorded, it does not have all the more recent changes and bells and whistles, and some of what I did there (particularly as it relates to hunting) would not fly now due to changes that have been patched in since. I think the more recent Dawn of Man and Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom also fit the laid-back city-builder vibe, though they do have somewhat of a more historical focus which may or may not interest you.

I've been slowly catching up with the Dawn Of Man LP by Strategic Sage and I've been enjoying it. He is methodical in his approach, explains the mechanics, what he is doing and why he is doing it. He also has taken the time to talk more in depth about the time period and the way of life back then. I still have a few videos to watch and I'm intending to watch more of the series that he is doing.

Dawn Of Man is in the archives if you want to check it out: https://lparchive.org/Dawn-of-Man/

There's actually more missing images on the forums copy of the DDS LP than there are on the archived one, given the timeframe I imagine it was archived at a time when waffleimages was mostly up but some of the images were already lost, as was not uncommon at the time.

Having checked each against the other it turns out there's a few hundred images on the recovered waffleimages side that never made it to the LP archive version, as well as 2000 images on the archive that aren't in waffleimages, so it's win-win.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiling_Point:_Road_to_Hell is a game that I want to see someone LP just to see if I was a moron when I played it when I was younger or if it really is a janky, unpolished and highly confusing experience where you'll spend five hours shooting birds in the jungle for their feathers and looting South American ruins for vendor trash before you can actually buy a decent gun and start interacting with the storyline that you're intended to interact with right away.

For puzzle game fans, there's a new megaLP All the DRODs in which streamer surrealcanine is doing a completionist run through all the official DROD games, including all secrets and challenges(achievements). He's also showing off high score demos when they're much better than his run.

If you don't know what DROD (Deadly Rooms of Death) is, it's a top-down turn-based dungeon crawler starring dungeon exterminator Beethro Budkin and his Really Big SwordTM. The franchise is over 20 years old (the first video in the playlist has a detailed history) and contains 5 main games, an RPG spinoff, a dozen more official level packs (known as "holds"), plus hundreds of fan-holds made using the level editor. The last game came out in 2014 but there's a new official hold "Treacle Stew" that should be coming out next year plus a humongous fan-hold codenamed "Entry Point". Both of these will also be in the LP.

I used to love the Press Buttons n' Talk ProZD Ace Attorney let's plays, where they read off all the text, and are kind of succesful voice actors, so they manage to do it pretty ok, for what is essentially multiple hours of reading.

Is there any good let's plays on / off forum that do that same thing?

I had gotten through about half of them, but I haven't seen / heard anything about Apollo Justice, Dual Destinies, or Spirit of Justice, and I kind of am on a Phoenix Wright kick.

They're not strictly Let's Plays, but LittleKuribo has been going through the series on his Twitch channel; he's currently on Trials and Tribulations, IIRC. JelloApocalypse did the same for the Investigations games, at least.

Once in a blue moon, I'm reminded about Abomination: The Nemesis Project, but this time I've decided to post about it and I'm not sure whether this is a request, a threat or a general enquiry. I remember playing this a couple of decades ago, enjoying it a lot but becoming burnt out by the time it came mid to the late-game scenarios. From what I remember, this was a response to the X-Com series in the 90s and its selling point was that it was real-time instead of turn-based but without anything that endeared people to X-Com.

I'm tempted to throw this one at someone who hasn't LP'd in a few years.

Looking for a focused, thorough video Let's Play of The Forest that shows off primarily the game's narrative aspects but gets into at least some of the mechanical crafting/survival stuff as well without spending hours just base building. Ideally I'd like it to be on a post-release build rather than during the alpha or beta (which most of the coverage I've seen seems to be from). It can be off-SA but please minimally obnoxious and no face cam. (Ideally not a Twitch VOD, either but if it does the other stuff and it's off Twitch, so be it.) Thanks!

Original War

OW is an RTS with interesting twist that puts it in direct contrast with bunch of RTS that are currently being LPd: your main limitation is your manpower, and not in an abstract way. You have low tens of peeps, and most things you can do require them. There also aren't set resource extraction points and instead the main resource spawns in randomly over the map, requiring the players to move out of their base.

There is a lot of jank (the AI is not great, the balance could be better, the game is quite deadly given the manpower limitations), but I think it provides very interesting contrast to the more standard RTS games that are being LPd on the forums. I also want to see what other people make of the game :v:

It would be really cool if someone let's played Star Trek - Hidden Evil.

There are essentially no let's plays of it because it was released in the early windows era, which means it wouldn't run on dosbox nor would it run on modern windows xp/7/8/10 machines.

GOG has recently started selling it though, so it looks like a solution to get the game to run has been found.

It might be the worst star trek adventure game, I'm not sure. Thing is, all the other star trek adventure games have been let's played before, and those let's plays were all pretty great.

SSLP might make sense, but I'd be happy with lazy unedited live footage dumped to youtube.

I'm not promising anything but I was toying with some of the action adventures while doing a run-through of the Star Trek adventure games. I managed to find a copy of DS9: The Fallen during the run but right now it's collecting dust for the foreseeable future. I'll include Hidden Evi if I do but right now I'm smack bang in the middle of one project and nearing the end of another, but I already have something lined up when that one is over. if I get around to it then it most likely won't be until at some point in 2022, I'll include Hidden Evil if I do. I'll probably do Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock afterwards as I once threatened to do while playing through The Adventure Games.
