We really did luck the hell out with mRNA coming together when it did. Even if the wilder possibilities fail to pan out it should be a game changer going forward for a lot of diseases.

That was one of the reasons why mRNA vaccine research was started years ago - there's not really an end to how much crazy poo poo you can use it for if it's proven out. It's just some special sauce surrounded by lipids and goo - then you can tune the special sauce to whatever you want and bingo, your body will attack it. Spike protein on a coronavirus, weirdo cancerous cell that your body doesn't normally attack - why not?

Of course, I'd expect that personalized poo poo to cost $texas, but scale that poo poo up and suddenly it's cheaper than a lot of other cancer therapies.

It's actually not because it's a lot tougher to synthesize and purify proteins than it is mRNA

Yeah I heard this is pretty much a wonder drug down at least down in here in reality. I consider vaccines to be literal medical miracles anyway but apparently this poo poo is even more efficacious which is going to be huge going forward I think

Watchmen has no context for anyone who grew up post-9/11 anyway. The entire premise depends on the looming threat of nuclear holocaust. Only comic nerds paid attention to the movie, because the comic was a landmark in Comics. No one else cared.

I'm still skeptical of him but if it was orangegropenfuhrer in the white house still, well, we'd be in a lot of the same spot, potentially with even more incompetence! We definitely wouldn't have left Afghanistan though.

Agreed on the context being less relevant but i think it still holds up well with world building and characters. Great execution of how a superman wouldn’t relate to humanity, a gadgeteer couldn’t handle the brutality, and a crime fighter who thinks in absolutes cares zero for hygiene or social skills.

The best spinoff was an RPG sourcebook Who Watches the Watchmen? as Moore hadn’t fallen out with DC yet so he was still advising so the plot and ideas maintain quality. I especially liked how if a player wants to be Dr. Manhattan they know what’s really going on and are in no danger from combat so have to figure out how to participate while being aloof from human affairs. Like if he wants to intervene in combat, has to roll well to not to be distracted by a fascinating supernova a galaxy away.

Please don't start this bullshit here. It honestly doesn't makes sense that a blockbuster director that does comic book movies attracts more controversy than directors that actively aim for controversy.

Probably because the former normalizes problematic views while the latter usually have no effect on the world and are unknown to society

Jerry Bruckheimer is a blockbuster director and he's the one who turned 15 year old Megan Fox into a sex object on screen etc.

The news stories all reference messages saying the shooter was "in NASIC" not "near NASIC," so I guess we'll look forward to hearing about how some airman or civvie brought his pistol in and started shooting their coworkers. :(
