There would be a certain amount of irony having an electric Pinto go up in flames from a battery failure.

I've never been much of a fan of orange cars before, but this Kia Stinger was something else. What a time to be alive, I'm actively lusting after Kias and Hyundais. They aren't just good "for their price" anymore, they're good period.

Modern Hyundais are good poo poo, let alone N-Lines are genuinely fast and impressive. The standard school runners versions are perfectly decent and even a bit of fun.

I've got a VW Golf that's actually fun to drive and a 2014 Elantra that's the most okayest car I've ever had. I mean that in both the positive and negative sense. There's literally nothing wrong with it. It's dead reliable, it's got all the features you could want, even heated seats, plenty of space. It isn't zippy but it's not annoyingly slow either. It's literally the car you'd buy if you need a car but do not want to think about cars at all. In fact I've joked that Hyundai's commercial could be "Hyundai: it's a car". That being said I've heard some of their newer stuff is legit good, and I've toyed with the idea of picking up a used ~10 year old Equus and basically having a Mercedes S-Class for $10,000.

You can't base your opinion of a brand that has undergone a massive change in the past decade on a platform that came out in 2010...

Fair, and that's pretty hopeful, really, because I literally don't have a single objectively BAD thing to say about my Elantra. It's just unremarkable, but only because it's neither memorably fun nor does it have any glaring flaws. It's the embodiment of a regular car for regular people. It's frankly astonishing to me that a car that reliable with all those features standard and that kind of warranty can be that (relatively) cheap nowadays. gently caress, when I was kid air conditioning was a loving option. Having driven from 2007 getz, cerato, solaris (accent in usa) up to ~2018 genesis g70 (pre-stinger take on bmw 3 series) they all share one common trait (much like toyota camry) - a sensation of 'empty' steering wheel. Way less feedback than i'd like. Bland. Yes they are (mostly) reliable, decent bang for the buck with simple and cheap maintenance and overall good cars (as in 'a mean to transport oneself from A to B') with decent equipment. I would never buy one though. Didn't drive stinger but i doubt anything changed. G70 had a bit of weight on the wheel but it was that, weight. It was still VW Lupo 1.0 TDi bland to my taste. CAT INTERCEPTOR posted:genuinely fast and impressive. This is not the point. Teslas are fast and impressive too. davebo posted:Seconded. I mean they hired Albert Biermann, head of BMW M development to oversee the handling of the Stinger, G70 and Veloster N. They're hardly garbage. Which g70, the previous one or the fresh one? Things might have changed but I still doubt it. edit i realised i posted in authoritative way. I am sorry if i misled anyone with my opinions. The only mechanical issue my 2014 Elantra has ever had thus far was that the switch that senses the door is closed got glitchy and caused the alarm to randomly go off, which obviously annoyed the neighbors and left me with a dead battery several mornings. NBD, just don't set the alarm, right? :wrongbuzzer: It turns on by itself even if you lock the door with the key. I just pulled the switch out with a pair of pliers and shorted the wires so the door always thinks it's closed. Hasn't caused any problems yet. Alarm even still works (just not for that door).
