Rageaholic posted:I can definitely see where you're coming from with regards to the vocals, but I'm still liking the album a lot anyway Yeah, I don't mean to sound like I don't like it. I do think George Clarke is still finding his clean voice though. I will also say that the parts where they do shift back into blackgaze - like the very end of Great Mass of Color, and the latter half of Mombasa - were legit gently caress yeah moments even though I appreciate the rest of the genre shifting. It's sort of like "see, we've still got it, we're just trying something else here."

Holy poo poo the new Low album is great. Really can't think of many bands that have had such a long and consistent run.

It's pimpin' time again. Thea Gilmore, ILOS/shoegaze/folk artist of some repute, has two new albums out this week: The Emancipation of Eva Grey and Afterlight. Much to her great surprise, both of them are bordering on entry to the UK Top 40 album chart. She's especially surprised by Emancipation being there, because a) it's a jazz album rather than her usual fare and b) it's only available from her own website. These albums are her first new releases since she separated from her husband, who had been her producer since she was 16 and hey, also turns out to have been a massive control freak. So it's very important to her to be successful in her own right. Anyway: if anyone should choose to buy either or both albums by Thursday they'll push up the sales for this week. So here's a couple of cuts from Afterlight for you to see if you're willing to help out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5WyLmy-ZeY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grXbZ_EtUBY

I got a ticket to the Boy Harsher show in MA tomorrow but won't be able to go, there's no thread where they exactly fit so I am copy pasting this to anywhere anyone might be interested. It's digital, I can just forward the email its in to whoever wants it and that should work I think.

J. Spaceman dropping a new Spiriutalized record next year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME0ji3o05UQ Still the huge sound with the tone reminiscent of the material from And Nothing Hurt ... Curious to see if he continues to re-release his other albums. I picked up the first three, but haven't gotten around to grabbing Let It Come Down yet.

Pitchfork has the track list. https://pitchfork.com/news/spiritualized-announce-new-album-everything-was-beautiful-share-new-song-always-together-with-you-listen/ Short record. Maybe some of those are epic sprawls, but I sort of doubt it. Interesting that the last two records create that Vonnegut record, but he did the latter part of the phrase first. I wonder if this is just outtakes from that session?

Vichan posted:The new version has a choir at the end instead of another voice chiming in. Oh, my understanding was that the version with the choir was the actual original version, but was omitted from the 1997 release because they couldn't get clearances for the Elvis lyrics, but then they did get the rights to them on the reissue and reinstated that section.

I believe that is absolutely accurate. LAGWAFIS got re-released in some fancy ridiculous CD packaging as well, and that version has the original intended version.

My mistake then. I wish they kept both versions up...

I like them fine but Tobi really wasn't that vital to why. It's the Kathleen Hanna show, and everyone knows it. Also does she not see her own hypocrisy here? She complains about authoritarianism....while basically trying to dictate what people should and shouldn't be doing. Maybe she should focus on making the change she wants to see instead of being a footnote to important peoples' careers.

Please, Tobi Vail, tell me which genres of music are acceptable to play and enjoy in 2021. Vaporwave? New Romantic? Norwegian death metal? Third-wave ska? Actually, gently caress it, I'm gonna go listen to some ska.
