Maybe it's because my timeline hasn't advanced to the big WOB war yet, but there are very few raids/invasion involving WOB. You have to do a lot of planet hopping to try adn hunt down WOB Mechs

Flareups always try to center around the player ship, try going towards Terra; I see like a dozen involving them or Comstar there

Also I want that WOB medium mech it's cool looking.

Since I haven't seen any posts here about it, there's a new utility out from CWolf.

Mission Control Designer - A Visual Contract Type Editor

tl;dr: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h01wHcOd0II

If I was at all skilled or creative, I'd be tempted to play with it.

Flashpoint - 3 parts - GET TO DA CHOPPAH!
Contract Types: Battle/Base Destruction, Battle, Base Destruction/Capture

Part 1: poo poo poo poo poo poo

You were misdropped way the hell behind enemy lines. Luckily, it's the repair and refit area, so most of the opposition (except local security forces) is damaged, and/or being piloted by the way-behind-the-lines slackers and techs. Unluckily, there's a *lot* of 'em.

Objective: survive and extract on the far side of the map
Secondary objective 1: kill crush destroy! as many enemies as possible
Secondary objective 2: Don't leave nothin' for Charlie - break as much support infrastructure (buildings, ammo stacks, et cetera) as possible

Part 2: They mostly come at night. Mostly.

Welp, you got out of the immediate hornet's nest. Now they know where you were, though, and are sending the reaction force and rerouted frontliners. Night, bad weather, hope you're up for knife fights.

Objective: survive and extract on the far side of the map within a limited number of turns
Secondary objective 1: pour encourager les autres - demonstrate that coming after you is a poor life choice
Secondary obective 2: Helloooooooooooo Nurse Kill Team! Hope you met the primary objective

Part 3: In and out like the wind

You can see your house extraction point from here. It's inside that walled facility there. Might want to hurry, the villagers are coming with torches and pitchforks and Frankenstein really wants to go bye-bye...

Objective: survive and extract from the fortification within a limited number of turns
Secondary objective: destroy the enemy turrets so the dropship can land OR get close enough that your ECM can overcome them to enable remote hacking and takeover
Secondary objective: everyone has figured out where you're headed and they're coming out of the woodwork - bet you wish you'd hacked those turrets
Secondary objective: Good news, everybody! The Kill Team from part 2 has caught up to you! Or their replacements, if applicable

Consecutive drops, so your pilots are going to be exhausted at best by part 3. Also your mechs are likely shot all to gently caress. (Don't know if it's possible, but have decision trees between parts to allow options - keep going as-is, burn some time to weld on some (not all) armor repair but not crits or component replacement (increase enemy numbers and quality, since they have time too), abandon the worst-off mechs in exchange for enemy units (your stuff to be recovered later by BattleTech Magic Handwavium/diplomacy/MCB shenanigans) - less time taken, but almost certainly less capable/pimped rides.)(Option: oh look, it's the place they keep the Kill Teams overnight. Nice of 'em to leave the keys in.)

Flashpoint rewards: this is likely to be a ballbreaker, so nothing less than a medium laser, I should think. OK, Clan medium. :v: I'd say it should be extra money for going above and beyond, especially if you get secondary objectives, but no salvage picks; lots of allocation, maybe, if your Handwavium is that you broke the enemy lines and your employers captured all the wreckage.

And the best part? Theoretically, it can be repeated for different factions! Randomized enemies, maybe? Randomized maps as well? GET YOUR rear end TO MARS!

And probably it's been done already, and better. :smith:

Maybe Midnight Run? Recover a prisoner, fighting off a rival crew and the main enemy that *really* wants the target. Followed by escorting said prisoner, who isn't all that interested in staying with you, or your rivals. (Won't backshoot you, but will certainly run for their own extraction once you're busy/out of range.) Part 3 would probably be another recovery, with accompanying 3-way firefight (can you do 4-way?).

I wanted to make a flashpoint with one mission where things go wrong (natch) and instead of ambushing a screening lance you find that you’ve put yourself between an entire battalion and their target.

Designed to punish people (like me) who don’t hit objectives and evacuate, but insist on clearing the field. Start against a company, only goal is extraction. Dropped a lance? Here comes another one. Keep ignoring Darius and Sumire’s increasingly desperate pleas to flee? Well, there’s 6 replacement lances.

If you beat all of them, your reward is being cursed out by your crew and losing the contract because your employer thinks you’re too crazy to trust.

Between the first part of Raisng the Dead (storyline mission where you loot the SLDF cache) and the Target Acquisition missions (Roger Tech for sure), pooping out fresh waves of enemies does appear possible, but I'm not sure what the max-at-one-time is.

I started up a new career on a whim because it turns out I re-bought this on steam along with all of the dlc at some point. I am woefully out of practice and bit off way more than I could chew in the second system I went to. What could have been an easy payday ended with four heavily damaged mechs, two dead mechwarriors, and my player character laid up in the medbay for 120 days. Between monthly bills and mech repair times I can only afford to make two mechs mission-worthy while I jump to a new system with half-skull milkruns my mix of salvaged lights and banged up mediums can run. I am two months from bankruptcy and it is exciting as hell.

That hell mission was Battletech as all get out though: My PC successfully slugged it out with an Archer in a Kintaro, and as I was poised to make the killing blow an enemy Commando tagged my mech directly in the head with a large laser, killing it instantly. I only survived by virtue of being The Main Character. My lancemates were not so lucky. My Enforcer was literally kicked to pieces by two disarmed Javelins, and my absolute beast of a Firestarter pilot heroically gave her life in a knife fight with a Phoenix Hawk so my Vindicator could cool down and ultimately win it for us. Honestly, the worst part is that I had to just core the archer out of desperation. If my Kintaro had gotten its next shot off and then I finished a leg I'd have a heavy mech in my hangar right now.

This reminds me of my favorite part of playing the campaign at release. I managed to salvage a Black Knight and that drat thing killed everyone that sat in it, including the Main Character. It's the only mech in the entire campaign I gave a name. Its name was Death Trap, and it always came out relatively fine, but it was a pilot injury-generating machine.

I swear some mechs are just injury magnets. There's a 'normal' Atlas (not the one from the story) in my bay that always, always gets their pilot injured even if theres no other non-armor damage.

Another issue I'm having with BTA- some skills "require Mechwarrior" or "require vehicle crew" yet are unavailable to pilots with those corresponding skills. I have a high level mech pilot that can't choose Lightfoot at the end of the Piloting skill tree even though they are a mech pilot, so that when I try to level up that final skill box, both the vehicle and mech skills are unavailable, so when I pick it I don't get any skill.

Any idea what the issue might be?

Lol gently caress you BTA, it spawned me in an escort mission on top of the escort surrounded by RAC5 carrying vehicles and mechs that perfectly fired them all into my Daishi's rear end. They were WOB too so I'm fighting eighteen of them at once because I spawned in the escort zone.

I had this issue when I continued a save from before the latest patch into the vehicles skills patch. I think they added a bunch of tags that only get generated on campaign creation. my only solution was to restart the campaign. I was ~500 days in at the borderline assault phase and decided to call it there and play some battle brothers instead. it's not really the mod's fault since they straight up said a new save was recommended

BTW, after exhaustive research of my LRM Carriers getting murdered repeatedly I am fairly confident it's not possible for your vehicle pilots to actually die. They can always go out wounded too (and do a bad job, but still, they can sensor sweep if you took that).

Yeah, I've been having the same issue, but just working through it & hiring more guys to level in the meantime. I didn't see they were recommending a new save, I just saw that it was save-compatible and went ahead. I wouldn't have minded restarting earlier, but at this point I just kinda want to press on with it, I have a few assaults at 3/4 parts and just finished a MAD-5S & a CTF-3L that I sunk some mechbay time into.

Career update: My Kintaro is cursed. My player character got out of the hospital, took the Kintaro out and got shot in the head again. Just a missile this time, so only a 30 day med bay stay. Even still, I recovered financially before spending all of my money on Warhammer parts to build a 3 million C-bill Warhammer. Now I'm barely scraping by again, but at least I have the mech from the Battletech box from when I was a kid, so it's all worth it. My Vindicators are still reliable as can be, and I salvaged a Phoenix Hawk that it turns out I adore as a big scout. Phoenix Hawks can MOVE.

And my past continues to haunt me, I lost full salvage on an Archer AGAIN. This time it wasn't entirely my fault, it was an escort mission with a friendly NPC Demolisher that double tapped the Archer's rear center torso with its AC20s. I'm 2/3rds of the way there on building an Archer now, at least.

Two things about BTA 3062:

1. LRM Carriers are the most overpowered weapon. By the time you have a lance of them, the BattleMechs are basically just there to spot for them and screen them from fire.

2. Davy Crocketts are the ultimate eject handle. I wiped out almost an entire Comstar Level III (24 mixed heavy Mechs and vehicles) when one of them blew off half of one of my LAMs and he was going to be meat for everyone else still waiting to fire. Thankfully, my Arrow IV-laden Dire Wolf was up next to shoot. Aim at the furthest Mech, and kablooie. Insta-killed 22 of 24.

Ok so I tried this - loaded up the save and went to the Pilot editor and I can't change their Skills or abilities (they are all listed as 1 and the abilities are blank). I can add XP but that won't really help.

Am I doing something wrong? Using the latest BTA, scanning the BATTLETECH folder prior to attempting any changes.

I have a number of pilots now that let me pick whatever skills at 5/8, and I’m hitting 10s now only to find out a bunch of them are locked into the vehicle skill at 10, despite being mech pilots. Some of them weren’t that big a deal, but others are totally worthless so it’s getting a little frustrating.

In other news, I got a MAD-4X and a bunch of misc. assault parts in my latest missions, but still not enough to actually complete any of the assaults. Trying to push the drop tonnage upgrades now so I can actually fit them in my lance when I do get to that point, since I’m capped with my current lance(s).

Random question, how do I find more clan missions in BTA? I’ve come across a few randomly, but I want more of that sweet tech.

200-ton jump capable tabletop design from 2013-ish, listed build is:

6 Defiance 1002 Light Particle Projector Cannons
4 Defiance Hammerfist Gauss Rifles
2 RAMTech 1500Z ER Medium Lasers
1 RAMTech 800P Medium Pulse Laser

The one I ran into doing the RoboTech flashpoint (Derelict) in Roger Tech wasn't a LAM, but still jumpy, and 5 ERPPCs plus other stuff. Allied, not enemy (thank gently caress), and I was tasked with "protecting" it. Only danger it was in was from the AI's "jump and alpha" strategy...

BTA, I don't know if it has stuff over 100 tons, so that might be less of a mobile turret.

In actual Roger Tech news, did a quick difficulty 10 (5 green skulls, under the new classifications system for RT) convoy destruction job. Urban. Phoenix Hawk LAM for recon/backstab/vehicle murder. Stalker for Mineapalooza and Arrow IV fuckery. Helepolis for Long Tom-foolery. Orion for (mostly) Thumper-ing. Marauder II (2x Gauss, shitload of medium pulse), King Crab (Gauss, Heavy Gauss, and a few lasers), and Bull Shark (3x HAG20 Hyper-Assault Gauss shredders) for direct fire as needed.

PHawk goes out and finds the convoy and escorts... all vehicles? Hmmm. Mines and Inferno and HE arty paste their spawn, get two kills almost immediatelty. Someone gets cute and tries to speed between building to get to the exfil point. KC says "no" with extreme Gauss. Everyone else moves to blocking positions (since I dropped almost on top of the exfil). More mines dumped on the two Pirate hovercraft that are doing a runner, everyone else either explodes from mines or are trapped... this seem too easy.

Reinforcement drop.

About two city blocks from my blocking force.

Just a RISC-equipped Bushwhacker.

And a Hammerhands.

And a Dragon Fire.

Oh, and a Warhammer X RISC testbed.

Inferno LT. Inferno Thumper. Inferno Arrow IV and 55 tubes of LMR mines to soak AMS (lotta mines made it, as did the Arrow.) The two hovercraft cut through the alleys and are one turn away from escape/mission failure, so they eat most of the direct fire, and are deleted.

Next turn, I have init for the most part, and move to position for team-target on the Dragon Fire. Well, until the Hammerhands jumps forward, and a couple buildings fall from arty splash (still Inferno'ing.) Dragon Fire shuts down, falls down. Hammerhands eats direct fire, and half the Tandem LRMs for a core. Other half went to the Dragon Fire, who stays down, and dies from head hits and heat. Bushwhacker runs the alleys to try and flank, doesn't do much. Warhammer moves slightly to reduce heat.

Next round! Bushy gets Crabbed in the face. More buildings fall from Indirect Burning Hell Delivery. Oh, look, Warhammer can see everyone except the Hele.

Which goes the other way as well. Wonder who has ini-

WHAM WHAM WHAM core, one vehicle left to PHawk and done.

Buncha vehicle parts yawn. One each of the Warhammer and Hammerhands. Three each of the DF and Bushy. Plus assorted components.

Four picks total. :suicide:

Took the chance, two each of the Dragon Fire and Bushmaster, figured I'd have a chance to complete at least one, right?

Allocated WHammer, HFist, car parts, mostly average junk. :smithicide:

Did get some other stuff earlier, like another RISC Silver Bullet Gauss plus 2x double ammo, complete Thug, and a complete Behemoth. (Had to pass up a complete second Pyromaniac Banshee for that, though. And a complete Quicsell Banshee. And a complete Awesome. And a complete Griffin lol nope when the others are available.)

Behemoth, I *need*. 100 tons plus two ballistic hardpoints means I should have my dual Sniper Arty platform I've been wanting. Without using a paper-armored Warhammer IIc.

Coming next: some local jobs, then travelling to the Tournament of Champions, to take on Dr. Han's fighting force of extraordinary magnitude! stomp around doing Urbie-on-Urbie violence.

Finally made it to the Tournament, late enough to not start it. And I kinda want to do the chicken-stealing jobs available to grind some Davion rep.

But why was it late? Did a simple little 500-ton-max urban assassination against Fed Suns.

Target: The Professional.

<insert forboding music here>

Spawn in to spot a Locust standing in an intersection scratching his shiny metal rear end. Less shiny after 55 tubes of Thunder-A, Inferno Arrow IV, Inferno Long Tom and Inferno Thumper. Stood there for a couple turns getting occasionally shot at until he shut down and bailed.

Also spotted a Super Griffin that I figured was the target, so i didn't shoot at him because he'd pull a runner.

Move a couple of direct-action Gauss hardbois up (Marauder II and Bull Shark), run the left flank with the PHawk LAM to scout. Discover the rest of Enemy: Lineholder, Ostroc, Axeman, a few other relatively decent heavies/heavy-mediums, and a Nidhogg VTOL gunship. Who *is* in range and decent hit chance, so a couple Gauss bangs and three HAG20 spurts, exposed structure, internal crits...

And the announcement that the primary target is taking damage.. no, he's scarpering. And once he drops behind some buildings, no one has LOS.

gently caress.

Glitch then puts on her cowboy hat, says "hold my beer", and goes full Sky Devil. More turns, more damage, more crits, more movement and evasion and get hosed, "Professional".

Meanwhile, everyone else is getting visits from the Gauss Fairy, and the unindicted co-conspirators named above in the Locust Stomp. Mines and Inferno only for that Super Griffin, because I want it. Axeman takes enough Inferno to make a final jump, final alpha, and final loud handle. Three parts, :toot:.

Everyone else except the SG is murdered horribly, so my Gaussbois are trundling up to keep some sensor lock going. Long Tom Helepolis, not having a shot, goes supercharger. And again. And one time too many BANG! the Lostech Weiand came apart so hard it broke the pilots leg and left him bleeding out.

But within range. :getin:

Alas, the Super Griffin had soaked enough real damage to lose a torso (and ammo explosion) before the pilot died (see: ammo explosion). Only two parts. :smith:

Took the Axeman and one part of the Super Griffin, got moderately good leftovers but not the second part.

Time to go! Check the Command Center to make sure I'm do...

Screamer and PHawk versus... Salamander.

And Annihilator GIVE ME THAT GODDAMIT!

Festivities start with minor hits from enemies, rear-center-torso exposure on the Anni from laser/Vulcan RAC, leaving the Screamer to roar in for the flying kneedrop!

Cored. :smithicide:

Salamander gets backshot and charged and breaks horribly.

Took the Annihilator part, got nothing really worthwhile allocated.

Solo duel.

Sure, why not?

Maybe that's why not - half-skull Duncan Fisher-elbowdropper Screamer, versus... 5 (green) skulls with a Test Pilot of some sort.

(New Roger Tech difficulty ratings: )

gently caress it. <chugs quart of Old Overcoat> FOR THE INNER SPHERE!

"Uhm, the Federated Suns *are* the Inner Sphere, Duncan."

BAH, DETAILS!

Well, poo poo. I dislike that RAC5 immediately, for ignoring my evasion. Still, zoom to try and get eyes-on for the charge!

Eat an alpha for about 140 assorted damage! No exposure, however.

Go into Berserker mode for more melee damage and accuracy! 500 points of head butt!

At something like 37% chance to hit.

Fuuuuuuuck.

79% for a much less damaging punch, I guess, coming in from one side. Enemy already took his turn this round, and I've still got tons of initiative, so I can book out of there before he can shoot.

HAHAHA, NOBODY FUCKS WITH DUNCAN FISHER!

Yup, one-punch head deletion. One pick, took a Templar part, got two more allocated. :toot:

Meanwhile nearly 4 million Comcastbux later, and a full 30 days for refit, my double-Sniper-arty Behemoth is almost ready! (Pulled the multi-track targeting computer from the HAG20 Bull Shark, wasn't using it there anyway, but Lee Harvey Assaultmech was already in-progress. It's a one or two day refit, though, dropping a bit of armor and getting to share Breaching Shot AoE damage with two deserving contestants... all standard HE rounds, but 50 shots total, and extra bonus accuracy at long/extreme range from electronics.)

Tonight as soon as I do some faction grind, the true Urbicide begins! BWAHAHAHAH!

LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY AS IT'S INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!
I spent a couple of real life weeks doing nothing but Word of Blake missions trying to get the final 3rd of that Nahual LAM, and when I finally get it I remember how lovely Inner Sphere Endo-Steel is. It's got practically no slots to do anything fun with, and it's got 4 energy slots you can't fully maximize because you don't have the room for more than 1-2 double heat sinks.

I got around the heat issues by loading 4 Streak Medium Lasers and 4 machine guns. The rest of the tonnage I put to C3, a command console and probe. Figure it might as well be a team booster if nothing else.

Got 2/3rds of an Osprey in the same mission. Might try chasing that for a bit. The Phoenix Hawk LAM is great but what I could do with just a couple more tons to play with....

Going Home.

Games Idiot Court Jester

In my last game my Stinger LAM just solo'd duels and recovery missions, 3 ERMLs isn't a ton of damage but there's nothing they can do to stop it
