They're definitely a parody but they never shut off which is kind of a problem. Irony poisoning is a real thing and it gets hard to tell if they fell into that hole.

They also ran out of ideas, every release gets more bland and relies too much on shock value.

A lot of folk in the UK metal scene had that /b/ level of disgusting crass poor excuse for humour back when we were all 16 and poo poo but like come the gently caress on. I'm so loving disappointed in him as he's never ever acted like that in real life (or at least in front of me).
Sometimes people grow up and learn not to be that way. Sometimes people just learn not to be that way in front of people who won't put up with it.

I know the rest of the members in both bands have been absolute shitbags, I just wonder if he's been more comfortable showing this side of himself while he's interacting with them. I know James is a straight up misogynist abusive bully but that's a whole different issue.
James is the one where they set aside a spotlight moment for him each gig so he can drink a pint whilst Thus Sprach Zarathustra booms forth over the speakers, isn't he?

Saw him doing that at Bloodstock and thought "huh, kind of a self-aggrandising prick thing to do".

Oh yeah they won’t. Also fwiw Chris was saying he wants a no name person with no big band history or anything to fill the place.
Of course he does, he needs someone who has no other route into the metal world who'll be dependent on him and can be his reliable little puppet.

I don't get why Chris just doesn't do the job himself, he does it for Alestorm and it's clear he regards Gloryhammer as his baby. But, like, his neglected baby because he doesn't do live shows with them or anything, he just tries to do the Brian Wilson thing without being as endearing as Brian Wilson.

Tbh, he might have been telling the truth, the chat logs are from 4 years ago, he might actually have changed or grown up. I don't think it absolves him or anything, he's more upset he was caught than anything, and he still actively participates in the rest of the bands also being lovely.

I was under the impression he was more hands-off after the release of the last album, essentially handing over the reins the rest of the band while he goes to work on other projects, but yeah, he really does seem to want the vocalist to be at a disadvantage.

I've exhausted a lot of energy on Gloryhammer really, it is a shame, they and Wizardthrone, despite being dumb as poo poo, really were entertaining and have made some of my favourite music of recent years and there really is a dumb power metal shaped hole in my life right now that I'm trying to fill.

Been listening to the Blackest Album Metallica cover thing. A lot of these are really good, and some are a bit too wacky (there's even a smooth jazz cover of Misery), but good grief am I sick of listening to Nothing Else Matters. Even shuffling the album it comes up too loving often because there's like 37 of them. Anyway, the Miley Cyrus and Chris Stapleton versions are rad.

Counterpoint: I still like Metallica (more so live than actually listening to anything they've put out in 20 or so years) but it's a loving terrible record, even the covers by people who I usually like suck for the most part.

Yes.
A little morsel before Nazzadan comes in with his Friday Release list:

Seven Spires - Gods of Debauchery is out today. I'm still on my first listen (77 minute album, got dang), but so far it's great. Heavier and darker than the previous one. Emerald Seas was quite breezy, had a lot of old Kamelot vibes. It did have one song that was kinda like a Cradle of Borgir kinda thing, and this time that seems to be more of a rule than an exception.

Fortunately the frontwoman is a great singer and does both cleans and snarls very well. She's also their primary songwriter, and very good at that. I guess the whole band being Berklee College of Music graduates counts for something.

I guess I could say this band is to symphonic metal what Unleash the Archers are to power metal: Basically in that genre, yes, but a lot richer and more varied than the usual stuff.

They're not an explicitly Nazi label so much as one that will sell Nazi poo poo if they think it'll make money, alongside anything else. I don't know anything about where Pa Vesh En stand, but you can make your own choices. I just don't like a company like that getting any of my money.

The impression I get from people much deeper into Gloryhammer fandom than I am is that he's being very mixed-signals about it - yes, he's ostensibly stepping back from it, on the other hand he does still talk about the thing as his project and still apparently gets grumpy about fan theories etc., because for some reason he thought he could make a fantasy metal band with a very convoluted lore behind the silly lyrics and not prompt wild fan speculation as part of the fun.
