There's got to be some research or studies about how trying to cope with life by embracsing a fantastical belief system its at best not going to make things worse but it sure isn't going to help fix anything. There's definitely a strong vibe of patronizing white savior vibes around the whole thing. Also like 90% of the somewhat formal stuff is less then a century old its just the same stuff the traveling conmen and rainmakers in the 20s were going town to town bilking the locals with then disappearing into the night
