You should have a little more faith in your captain.
I've been looking for this 3d third person action game (something like Drakan. I think it might've come out around the same time even)
I might be misremembering things, but it had 3 playable characters and - this is the part that's been stuck in my head - one of them was this guy with bandaged head. He was a magic user.

There was a game that for some press a while back - one maybe two years - where you played a guy living in a vacation cabin with three (?) incredibly over-sexualized women. You could hunt (poorly), drive a car into town (poorly) and do stuff in the town like visit the gun shop that had like full on counterstrike guns in it. It was a Unity asset game developed by a completely unknown Eastern European outfit, and of course after a while it turned out it was going to be a porn game. Several writers were following the development of the game for some reason from a comedy angle.

Aint no thing like me, 'cept me.
I remember a web game where you ironically played as the US military and you were told to bomb a country or a city and then shown a map with borders but no labels.

You can take as long as you need to click somewhere and then it showed you "OOPS, you bombed place B, which was 5700 miles away from place A, oh well, try again!" then right back to clicking.

The whole game had 4 screens, Welcome screen, Mission screen, Map, OOPS -> Mission, etc

it had some royalty free rock music playing the whole time to underscore how bad-rear end you were at bombing other countries

I think it had it's own domain from the last 5-8 years

Blocky graphics, but well coded.

Google says I'm a liar, but I'm pretty sure I heard about it from the trump thread

The other was a mech/robot building game where you then had to give the robot programming it would follow for fighting. While there were some prebuilt robots you could fight, the main gameplay was playing against other people's designs. Specifically, I remember that the mechs would have price/weights listed after building but there wasn't an actual limit except for when you tried to enter the robots into tournaments, where they would put money limits. The game itself was really complex where one player designed bot I remember was a small box looking robot which unfurled into a giant spider with attacking arms that would stab at your starting position if you weren't quick enough.

Maybe RoboWar?

Heist game, 2D side-view. It's not Steamworld Heist but has a very similar style. I want to say it had a kind of gaslight/Victorian aesthetic. It's relatively recent and was one of those games that everyone sang the praises of for a week and then promptly forgot, and I'm pretty sure it had a fairly generic name, like "The Score" or "The Caper" but neither one turns up results.

Trying again: Ancient 3D flying thing with big blocky polygons, like starfox or LHX attack helicopter. The player flew a wedge-shaped ship around and shot at other wedge--shaped ships. There were pyramid-looking bases on the map, and if an enemy ship hovered above the pyramid for a bit it would capture it and you would lose if enough of them got captured. Not terminal velocity

This wasn't it, but I actually just found the one I'm thinking of. It's called roboforge:

http://www.roboforge.altervista.org/

It's as convoluted as I remember it, but the concept was super cool because the idea of just being able to build a whatever robot and it just changes the weight/cash classes was really cool. And the other people's designs were really neat, my best possible robot was just a glorified missile at the time.

I'm looking for the title of a space rail shooter I played on PC sometime probably early to mid 90's, potentially freeware but I'm not sure. Unfortunately I don't remember much else but it was in third person and forward scrolling. I also recall one of the levels consisting entirely of dodging loads of asteroids coming at you quickly. Any ideas?

None of these, graphically it was closest to Corncob and it also took place above terrain and not in space itself. I'll pick through the list

Here is one I very much doubt I will ever find out the name of.

It was an arcade game, but it was unique in that it was made for a competition.

I remember seeing it on the news in the late 80's, or very early 90's. Pretty certain it was a flying game, and the models were 3D.

The competition (from memory), was that you had 1 life/go at completing the game. You had to fly into a mountain or volcano and blow up a base, and you only had 7 minutes (I think) to do it. I am not sure if you had to shoot down other planes/jets or not, but I imagine you did.

It was on the news in Australia, but I have no idea if it was a thing that ever came to Australia or not.

This is very vague because I remember barely anything about this. My main memory about it is the school-yard gossiping about one of early guns no-one managed to find.

It was 2D platformer with guns on Windows. This was around 2000-2003 or so. Player collected different guns from levels (unlocking them forever after that). One of early guns was hidden behind destructible wall. I think there was autoscrolling level too.

Likely either Freeware or Shareware or Demo game considering that so many of us played it.

Edit. Ah, managed to find it by looking at old demo sites. It was Gunner 3:

It's possible you're mixing something else up with the one of the Nintendo World Championships, 1990 had a cart that had a hard time limit of 6:21 with minigames through SMB, Rad Racer, and Tetris

1992 Nintendo Campus Challenge had SMW, F-Zero, and Pilotwings minigames with 6 minute rounds.

Those were held in the US/Canada, though.

Competitions like that at the time (and still today for classics) were usually time limit-based or score was affected by how quickly you got to the end of a specific stage

So, what's an arcade game featuring flying in 3D from around that time that has a mountain/volcano base that can be reached in 6 or so minutes?

Probably After Burner or After Burner II:

For what it's worth I am 100% certain I played exactly this cartridge on some stage at a trade show here in Sweden as a kid (I remember clearly not having played Pilotwings before, thus not being acquainted with the controls and failing the parachute portion spectacularly), so those things definitely made it abroad even if divorced from their original context. This was a few years later though; I remember that because Yoshi's Island was coming out at the time (released 1995) and they were also promoting the Atari Jaguar at that trade show showing Alien vs. Predator (1994).

Oddly, I also remember seeing (and playing) an early part of Final Fantasy VI at that show (walking around Figaro Castle), even though that game was never released on SNES in Europe. The game did come out in the US in late 1994 though, so the timeline tracks...

Nah, def wasn't after burner, as I had played it before seeing this news item. Also wasn't Galaxy Force.

Wasnt a Nintendo thing either.

It would have been aimed at Adults as opposed to kids. It might have ben running on a Main Frame computer as the graphics at the time were pretty advanced 3D models.

Edit: I really don't think this was ever released as anything outside of the competition or whatever it was, as it would have been too expensive at the time.
