Think that sounds fine - as long as you like the grip you get. I wouldnt get too hung up on 2.35 vs 2.2 up front - just make sure they are fit for purpose and you arent running a bigger tire in the rear - I think this would feel pretty weird when turning. The same size front and rear is fine.

Wider(and generally bigger) tires give better grip as you maximise surface in contact with the ground, but in return they cost you more effort to pedal.

Got a 2.4 Rekon (f) and 2.25 Rekon Race (b) on order!

What would cause a dropper post to rise incredibly slowly unless tapped with light pressure on the front or back of the seat?

Could be a few things in combination or by themselves:
1) lack of air spring pressure
2) lack of activation lever movement (eg loose or stretched cable, if reverb hydraulic actuator then it might have bubbles and need bleeding)
3) bushing or key wear (check for excessive play when fully extended)
4) dirty seals and/or contaminated grimy slick grease or maybe its going dry.

Most of these things can usually be solved with a basic service that dont need a complete strip and most manufacturers have some cheap(er) way to do it yourself.
If it's spongy at all(or if it has a reset switch that needs used all the time), then it needs a more involved service to solve a floating piston issue in the main internals.

How many tire plugs is too many? I'm having bad luck with a Rekon I recently purchased. I've plugged 4 punctures in the last month (3 in tread, 1 in sidewall). I'm not sure why this is happening so much on the Maxxis...I went 2 years without punctures using Schwalbes. Running 20-22 psi @ 150lb rider weight and I tend to pick conservative lines through the chunky stuff.

For my last summer set of types I didnt have much luck with EXO - It died in the first 40 secs of the same trail on 2 seperate occasions. Plugging worked , but im hesitent to put up with that(currently its sitting useless). Maybe i should get a cheap insert to get some use out of it.

I had an older EXO+ DHR2 fpor winter and wet seasons that i tried out recently for giggles(to see if i could get any more life out of it), and it definetely lasted longer, but it has 6 months riding on it and i got 3 plug hole that keeps blowing out under certain circumstances so im probably binning it(tread had maybe a couple of months left in it).

I moved back to my summer rear - a 2.4 DD dissector which has been bomb proof - so for my winter setup im probably doing some DD on the rear to replace the DHR2.

Im not sure if its because im getting faster and pushing it harder or maybe manufacturing has been crap this year, but out of maxxis stuff i suggest exo plus as minimum and if you can take the extra weight DD is probably best. Not that experienced with other makes - so maybe someone else can suggest a ligghter alternative.

Of note i think 22 psi on the rear is pretty low - Im about 160 and i run 26 on the rear with 2.4" tire (21 on the 2.5 "front).

My DH bike came with "DH Casing" tires stock. I rode them for 2 seasons with no flats (I run tubes) and replaced the rear with exo+. I had two flats in the next two days of riding. The casing makes a bigger difference than you'd imagine IMO.

I've personally had good luck with exo+ on the front and DD on the rear but it's more roots and rounded rocks than sharp or volcanic rocks out here, so fewer issues with sidewall cuts and punctures.

165lbs and 22.5/26psi, not particularly fast.

This was it, the cable had come slightly loose at the dropper switch. Thank you. I was way overthinking it and should have known when the guy I bought it from a while back said he'd recently dialed in that exact dropper cable.

Demoed a Specialized Kenevo SL yesterday last minute because there was a spot free on a guided ride. It's a very cool bike and if I were to get a ebike it would absolutely be that one. It's only a couple of kgs heavier than my current non ebike and it handles like a normal bike too. Coming from a regular bike even the smaller motor of it compared to other ebikes feels great.

Saying that though, it still didn't feel as good as my current bike on the downhill but to be fair I wasn't expecting it to because mine is an absolute weapon.

It does get me excited about ebikes in the future though. I think my next bike will definitely be an ebike, but that's still many years away yet.

Kind of dumb is an understatement. Nice work. Were you able to enjoy longhorn or were you too beat up by then?

Ugh, and drew hill. It might be worse now that it’s semi-paved with the asphalt smell in the heat.

Rough dude, I can't really tell on the MRI but what's the injury specifically?

I crashed a couple weeks ago (came into a corner too inside, missed the good part of the berm, pushed the front through the turn and sent it into a small ravine) and broke my collarbone, so I'm on the injured list with ya. Luckily only 6 weeks until I'm out of the sling ( I hope) but my break was pretty minor for a broken bone.

Somehow I got a PR on the bike only section from the start to the right hand meet up spot before the final downhill. Maybe too tired to brake or something. haha.

Drew Hill honestly didn't really do me in. I was slow but on the bike. The hike a bike on mountain lion was probably the worst bit for me.

They should be fine if you can find em. Only difference will be the frame or fork really on a slightly pricier bike and that won't do you much good. Cheap bike is better to learn on you won't be as scared of scuffing it. Can upgrade brakes on the cheap later, but anything 1x with a dropper should last a beginner a good while.

(says beginner who got something higher end last year because it was all I could find. I would have been just as happy on a bike for half the cost but there were none available)

My riding buddy just did 1x10 and dropper on his 2019 marlin after the rear mech exploded and it changed the whole bike he likes it a lot. I have a roscoe 8 and its my first bike in 20 years and getting the seat out of the way quickly and not having to deal with front derailleur is extremely nice. Its great you can get both those options on a sub 1k bike now.

I think you're lucky in a sense you didn't fracture the bony structures that support the head of the humerus itself, that's more of a screws/plates procedure and adds a lot of recovery time. I'm glad things are looking good for you.

Just FYI, the three bikes that were listed (Giant Talon, Marlin 6 / 7) have 1x gearing but don't come with a dropper post from the factory. They both have internal routing but it spits out the cable at the bottom of the bottom bracket, so you'll have to zip tie it up the seat tube and use an external dropper.

In my research, the Giant Fathom 2 checks all of the boxes: 1x, dropper post, air fork, and tubeless for under $1500. I'm still trying to find one in stock locally to buy.
