All those pictures of guys in German uniforms about to execute civilians over mass graves tended to be an Einsatzkommando doing its business. Recruitment for them usually selected the most enthusiastic Nazis because mass murder of civilians was pretty difficult mentally (regular army soldiers sometimes executed civilians too but they found it bad for morale).

There's no examples I've ever seen where an SS member was punished for refusing assignment to a concentration camp. Likewise I seriously doubt refusing assignment to an einsatzcommando would be punished.
