It's a thing for some art restoration, apparently the moisture in the saliva helps set tacks so they don't slip out as easily. But IDK if you'd really need it for a pallet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHcKBJ4sXEc&t=1578s

Also I've seen similar RC situation with cars that are attached to a pole in the middle and get up to 200mph but it seems less involved other than hitting GO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T31juxlQuGA

Sagebrush posted:yeah the three dudes in the middle was really reminding me of this dumb as poo poo championship laser tag tiebreaker I was friends with a couple of guys who ran a Laserdome franchise and one day they told me they got picked to host the qualifications for the country where I live for which team would go to the main European championships. I was quite impressed but also surprised as I didn't even know you could compete in laser tag but I thought it sounded quite cool and tried to imagine what strategies the different teams might have when actually competing in lasertag. What happened was that like 10 people showed up and they all started dancing like that, it was completely ridiculous and extremely embarrassing. I stayed and watched for like 30 minutes before I had to leave as I couldn't handle the amounts of fremdscham.

My understanding is that they ended the championship on a draw, so they're doing a timed (or maybe best-of-N) "shootout" as a tie breaker, and this stupid musical chairs mexican standoff is the form that takes. They walk around in a circle and try to shoot each other the moment their vests reset, and the twisting action is to turn their own sensors away while trying to shoot around the other person's blocking move. Eventually the time will run out or one of them will score enough hits to win. Like I said, dumb as poo poo. I like how at the end even the crowd of spectators can't muster any more than 8 seconds of halfhearted clapping. Sagebrush fucked around with this message at 23:57 on Sep 22, 2021 |

I don't loving blame you, I almost got crushed by a deck cart on a large arena show ten years ago. Now I'm the first person to walk away or call stop if something looks dangerous and I am 100% sure it's cost me work but gently caress it, I'd rather go home at the end of the night. The entire industry is due for a strike, but I'm happy at least the film and TV crews are going for it.

All of this is right, but if it works like Ultrazone back in the mid 90s when I played (and the guns and vests look the same) then chest shots were 200, back was 100 and deactivated you immediately, while shoulders were 50 and only stunned you for 2 or 3 seconds where your gun deactivated. It took 3 consecutive shoulder hits to deactivate you. Shots could only be fired a shot a second or so so timing was a big part of it. Dodge a couple hits after a shoulder stun and you can conceivable get your gun back and shoot them. It was fun. It also got me an all expenses paid trip to see Nirvana on new years right before Kobain bit it by winning a 27 man free for all at it. My memories of it are pretty positive.

A road case caught the back of my heel just above the top of my shoe and I walked with a limp for 3 years after that, fun way to spend your early 20s. I'm trying to get a friend out of the business right now since he's totally sick of all the bullshit. Gotta love an industry that has an inexastuable supply of 18-24 year olds who will never say something is too dangerous because it means they'll be blacklisted. I almost always worked under the IATSE contract (never got a card long story) and the difference between union and non union shows was incredible. Edit for OSHA content: same friend was doing an international tour and saw a guy from the local arena crew taking the deck down die when he pulled the leg supports too fast and a platform fell on him. I asked my dad if he ever got hurt on an inspection and yes. Some business had an industrial staircase that had not yet been filled in with concrete, you're supposed to stop gap those with wood planks if that's the case so people don't trip on the lips of the stairs - but didn't do that either so he tripped face first, going up these stairs and he fined them heavily for it and other things.

there was a kerfuffle in the... mid-90s maybe? long enough ago that I read about it in a newspaper. anyway, there was an oddly specific fetish strip club with a shower on stage, and CA inspectors were trying to insist they make it ADA-compliant. different agency, but
