On behalf of the Serbs, we're very sorry for the Hillary Clinton sniper incident. Next time, we'll aim better.
Listened to Yngwie's newest, Parabellum, last night at the gym (shred is not good lifting music). A couple of killer songs: (Fight) The Good Fight

Sea of Tranquility

^^^two of my favorite of his songs.

But. this sounds too much like Vitamin C's "Graduation" for it to be coincidence. I bought it digitally so I don't have the booklet and can't find any credits to know whether he straight up stole the melody or not.

Haven’t really watched the Metallica documentary “Some Kind of Monster” before so I put it on and it’s kinda hilarious they took nearly 2 years to write that garbage. Meanwhile Lars and Bob Rock puppet the band to make this garbage. And we get a little snippet of Lars making millions selling his paintings and their shrink in 80s sweaters writing loving lyrics lol about the only good thing was seeing Trujillo brought on.

They are a basically puppets of Q Prime and the message comes through Lars and Bob Rock.

I think this interview is almost required to watch with SKOM. It's the other side of the coin that isn't discussed but you basically nailed it. Management were pretty loving inhumane to the band and they kinda had broken Metallica by St. Anger era.

I've never really listened to Nile and I'd like to remedy that. What albums should I start with/what are their best works?

I'd agree with the other guy on Annihilation of the Wicked, but I think In Their Darkened Shrines is my favourite. Sarcophagus is one of the best riffs I've ever heard, and Execration Text is just amazing, so many killer riffs and the drum work is incredible.

Y'all gonna tell me you wouldn't be in that crowd chanting die with everybody else?

Or would you be at the back, with your arms crossed, telling everybody you liked Metallica better when it was James, Lars, Ron and Dave? Ya big fuckin' nerd.

They still rule.

Also, Load is a loving great album. Reload has some great songs but a fair bit of filler. St. Anger has some killer riffs that are buried under that godawful snare and terrible songwriting. Death Magnetic is a decent comeback, but I don't listen to it much. Hardwired has some legitimately great stuff on it (Spit out The Bone is loving awesome and cooler than anything since Black album) but if it was 1 disc instead of 2, it would've been a much better album.

i would not be at a metallica concert at 2021, making me the winner

Catacombs of Nephren Ka by Nile was one of the rare times the album art lived up to the music within in. It’s all it took for me to buy that back in the day. So go there - it’s amazing. I wish “In The Beginning” was on the Canadian Spotify but it’s blocked. That one is cool too.

This makes me very happy. They have such a great sound. Heavy as poo poo with cool weird riffs all over, the lyrics are perfect to read and get into the atmosphere with. I’m due for a Nile binge too!

If you really dig the Egyptian aspect of the music I highly recommend you check out Karl Sanders solo work like "Saurian Meditation". It's just him dialing up all those aspects to 11.

Among the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka got me into the band but I think I like Festivals of Atonement the best. I still listen to it a lot. It's slower and less complicated than they got later but it's good. They re-released the five tracks from it with early versions some of the tracks that were later put on Catacombs to make an 8 track album which is In the Beginning. I got my copy of Festivals of Atonement from Pete Hammoura (he was selling them on ebay probably 20 years ago now).

It really does feel like a different band - Black Seed was alright though but I haven't been able to get into them afterwards.

The lead guitar part? There are several lead guitar tracks playing in harmony and the guitarist is using a wah pedal which gives it that crying tone.

Here's a guy playing one of those guitar parts without wah:

Yeah it's all that + the kinda slow string bends. You don't really hear bends used that way very often, especially harmonized and with all those effects on them. I remember being baffled by that exact same part the first time I heard it.

It came out in 2000 which is a weird time for metal on the internet. The album is too new to be considered a "classic" (for whatever thats worth), but too old for it to have a huge internet presence. You see that a lot with poo poo from around those years, bands released an album then, and then 20 years passed and none of the guys think about it, or put the effort to do anything with it, and the label that released it or has the rights to it disappeared.

A track from the upcoming Cynic album has been released

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNFn_phSuE4

If you haven't been keeping up, two band members passed away in 2020 (Sean Reinert and Sean Malone). A poster upthread mentioned that then the new album might contain some bass tracks recorded by Sean Malone before his passing, which would be cool. At least on this track, the bass is done on synthesizer. Sounds very much like modern-era Cynic with heavy prog-fusion influence on top of layered atmosphere, if that's your jam.
