I do wonder if Paper Mario still holds up today though. Considering how beloved TTYD is, the original might be viewed as too simplistic. Especially if you're also coming off from Bug Fables.

Paper Mario is better paced but I think TTYD is more interesting and engaging in the swerves they throw into each Chapter. 64 doesn't really start doing weird stuff until near the end.

I was thinking that too, haven't there been a few popular anime series recently (during movie planning and development time) with a 'person inside a video game' premise? I don't know enough to actually think of examples, but am sure I read about it last year or so.

No exaggeration there are roughly 6 of these a season making it to TV. Not 100% inside videogame but the “other world” trope is so popular. There are 4 anime seasons a year.

Paper Mario is more wholesome, cute and based in the Mushroom Kingdom. TTYD had email and technology, so it had many funny nods to internet culture. So it's less mystical, and feels meta—like all of the pop culture was updated to what was funny in real world America at the time. I think it's funny, but I love the original Paper Mario just as much. I can see why either would be someone's favorite

This is exactly why I prefer PM64 over TTYD myself. Less mechanically fulfilling than TTYD perhaps, but there's just something about the flow of the game that really clicks for me.

They aren't available yet.

Personally, I found it surprisingly easy to get the Zelda joycons, and these are only going to be available to Nintendo Online subscribers, so I'm not sure they're going to be that hard to get.

I doubt Iga would be interested in working for Konami again when he can already make his own Castlevania with Blackjack and Hookers.
It definitely makes sense for him to continue developing his own IP while it has legs, but he explicitly said he's interested in completing the AoS/DoS Castlevania storyline about the 1999 resurrection.

Super Mario RPG is like the seventh best Mario RPG behind Paper Mario, TTYD, 3 Mario+Luigi games and that one amazing Mario Golf story mode.

Which means its still a good game. Mario's just had a whole lot of good RPGs.

Because they're still using the IP and developing games for them, just not video games. A slot machine theme is one of the harder parts to develop. Sure you can slap some Deviant Art poo poo and some numbers on your game and call it a day but those are the bottom tier game casinos purchase as filler.

Konami slot machines are a premium product because they can slap an IP with emotional resonance for the demographics that casinos are desperately chasing. The Shinobi slot machine that Konami published in 2006 still probably makes more per year than the ps2 game it was based on made in its lifetime.

Vvvvv Possibly, but they're also a company very adverse to taking risks. They could pay another company to develop a game that could turn out good, sell a lot and they'd get a cut or it could it turn out bad and damage the IP. Or they could take the money and use it to develop more slot machines with bigger bells and whistles.

Slot machines aren't a sold and done deal, even if a casino buys them outright they still have to pay licensing percentages and maintenance contracts.
