I started watching anime in the 2000s starting with Studio Ghibli films, then Inuyasha, One Piece, Dragonball, Code Geass, Bleach, Naruto, Trigun and Soul Eater, among others.
2000s anime i've revisted in the 10s has included: Zetsubou Sensei, Mononoke, Gankutsuou, Hell Girl, Xam'd, Elfen Lied and Umineko (the game not the show).

I'd think a list of 2000s anime with Inuyasha would also mention Azumanga Daioh.

Although I guess it was never on Toonami.

Cheating helped me fail the test and stay on the show.
So I understand that BDs and DVDs in Japan for anime are ridiculously expensive, and therefore more people just stream it there. If a show has great BDs sales but low streaming numbers, does that necesarrily make it a flop

That makes it quite the opposite since it made a lot of money.

The success of a show is generally dependent on how much product it pushes, typically in the form of merchandise or increased sales of the original source material (so increased manga or light novel sales). Very rarely are you making a sizeable amount of money off of BD sales. So I wouldn't say BD sales generally translate to the success of a series.

i think in hindsight that azumanga daioh being missing from grouchio's list de-owns gorf instead their fists crashed into each other and they both slid back ten feet and gorf goes 'omoshiroi' indicating that he's still confident

I don't think azumanga daioh was really widely available in its heyday beyond :files:, expensive dvd box sets, or the rare dvd rental place that carried it. So I would give people a pass for that if they had limited funds or knowledge beyond what was showing regularly on Toonami.

From what I remember, the english dub wasn't really that bad.

azumanga daioh's anime is a mixed bag tbh so i don't count it as that much of an essential thing to watch. kaori is cute but out of every appearance the show adds, which is like the only big thing it adds over the manga, only two of them aren't followed up with a wacky gag about kimura sexually harassing her and her funniest gag is in the anniversary chapters that aren't animated in any form and almost feels deliberately created to give her a level of closure and like, actual funny writing that the anime completely neglects to give her since she's not even included in the final episode in a significant way

I meant compared to stuff from the 90s or early 00s, like code geass has a different sort of proportion going on even if it didn't have the really exaggerated chobits eye spacing or whatever that (at least around here) people thought of when they heard 'anime' (also keeping in mind that people didn't even realize like pokemon or dragonball Z was japanese :v:).

Code Geass is specifically the CLAMP look though, like it's not really indicative of overall trends in anime design it's just how CLAMP has always drawn characters.
