Bring me the head of Auguste Escoffier.
Or is a mummy a subtype of zombie, being the animated dead?

I don't know if it's a subtype but definitely in the same class of undead. Zombies are usually depicted as mindless, wanting to feast on brains, while mummies can have intelligence & lay curses upon victims.

:actually:
Zombies can be killed by removing the head or destroying the brain, whereas mummies have already had their brains removed as part of the ritual process. Mummies are more akin to a lich, and often have a similar weakness of a magical amulet or canopic jar that must be destroyed.

Perhaps a mummy's weak point is just its heart, as they thought that was the center of cognition at the time.

Yes but that's not inside the bandage-wrapped corpse currently lurching toward you. It may be hundreds of kilometers away in the original tomb.

Not necessarily, it was sometimes left in the body because they thought it was more important than the other organs. I think it changed depending on when and who it was done to but perhaps heartless mummies cannot reanimate.

according to the modern prophet Aesop Rock, one takes the brain out, and leaves the heart in.

are the same thing!

Fun fact:
Egyptian Brown, or Mummy Brown, was a popular pigment with painters from the 16th t century well into the 19th. It was, as the name suggests, made from ground up mummies.

At its peak demand was so high that some mummy sellers took to manufacturing their own mummies from dead slaves and criminals as proper ancient mummies were increasingly hard to come by.

Mummy brown declined in popularity after people started to realize that it was made out of dead loving bodies.

I just went to a screening of boulevard nights last night. It’s in my top ten of all time. Such a beautifully heart breaking movie.

Then they ruined it by double featuring it with Walk Proud, which stars a blue eyed white guy (Robbie Benson) in brownface.
