Waltzing Along posted:The world would be better if there was an Uncharted 5 and 6 and no Last of Us 1 and 2. I thought the Uncharted games were alright, but they would have been way better with classic Tomb Raider style platforming and exploration. Actually Uncharted 4 was really good because they decided to rip off Metal Gear Solid instead of Gears of War. They should have made the first 3 either like classic Tomb Raider or MGS

Disclaimer: I haven't played Shadow of the Tomb Raider and I'm not an expert on Uncharted. In the new TB's you'll be spending most of your time killing people and hardly any time on puzzles (there are a handful of mini tomb-like room-sized puzzles disconnected from the rest of the game, iirc) or exploration. There's a heavy reliance on on-rail action "set pieces". There is no free platforming, you just hold a direction and press a key to move from one white/yellow marked object to another. They're fun if you want to shoot stuff with a bow. Edit: Anyway, search for "tomb raider"+uncharted for some in-depth analysis Edit: lol @ SotTR still having Denuvo. Squeenix are garbage. itry fucked around with this message at 00:56 on Sep 29, 2021 |

The violent death scenes stop early on too, but there is one on the river that you're basically guaranteed to see which is why everyone remembers it.

I don't understand why they needed to reboot Tomb Raider anyway - didn't they fix the series with Legend and Anniversary? What exactly was gained by '"more of the same, but different, in a way that's familiar?"

yeah tbh as much of a deal people make out of it, it's really only a few "special" environmental and set piece deaths that have those but most often it's just you ragdolling down a cliff on a missed jump or you get shot and fall down dead

Edit: I think the chain of thought was something like... We want to tell a mature story. We need people to identify with our main character. But (male) gamers don't care about women. We'll make them want to protect the main character instead. itry fucked around with this message at 01:17 on Sep 29, 2021 |

They seem to be making the specific case that the aesthetic difference between OG Lara and Modern Lara would inspire a more protective feeling. The thing is that does make sense to me. But it's because OG Lara looked like a 90's action movie lady while Modern Lara looked more like a regular human. Not because her tits are smaller lol.

Tomb Raider 2013 was a real good game, so of course two other unrelated studios made the sequels which were both middling for different reasons and didn't feel like true progressions of the concept. Still better than any uncharted game

They always maintained, right from the start, that when they first designed her, she wasn't meant to be so sexualized, and there was meant to be like a paternal / maternal instinct to protect her. But they gave her massive cans, how can that be true?

WILDTURKEY101 posted:yeah once there are people shouting racist slurs over chat I am done with that game I've always enjoyed multiplayer but to get decent chat out of it you need moderation. Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament etc. were player server based so if you found a decent server it was good. Games like World of Tanks could have fine chat but it'd require moderators soooooo not gonna happen as that would cost money. You have games like Hearthstone which have just said "gently caress it, no chat" which I don't really like because it makes the game feel less multiplayer. Chat box > voice chat > emotes. I can just ignore the chat box without actually blocking anyone generally. Voice chat can be disabled although I don't like to do it though because maybe someone said something useful (hahahahhahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA). Emotes tend to feel sarcastic to me.
