When an oral antiviral has a stage III clinical trial significantly stronger than remdesivir (lmao they probably won't, antivirals are loving hard in general population) you can care.

Until then, assume they're all worthless.

It's getting late enough I can see novel molecules starting to hit clinic, but anything that's sufficiently far enough along in clinic is just a repurposed molecule that a pharma company is trying to make a quick buck on.

We have cured every loving disease known to man and some not known invitro, it means absolutely nothing. Remdesivir's invitro data looked really good and it's questionable whether it actually does anything.

Antiviral therapeutics are wildly difficult and it takes years and hundreds of millions of dollars to have enough data to be reasonably confident in a target that may do something. Then it of course all changes, because viruses. Anything that's motoring through clinic right now is a molecule that was made for something else and discarded and they're taking a swing to see if they can get a remdesivir like approval for some ROI.

I'm actually reasonably confident we'll get some solid therapeutics for COVID, but I expect it to take another year or two and people really need to stop caring about what a drug does outside of a human body.

I like how this is turning into an airborne AIDS situation, where we're stuck with slamming antiviral cocktails hoping to stretch out our days to normal old age problems (caused by longterm usage of antiviral cocktails).

On the plus side, how many people suffering from chronic viral infection have been ignored and marginalized because it hasn't happened to enough people to get attention? I think we're headed for a golden age of regenerative medicine (for the rich) as this is looking to be polio levels of bad, if not worse.

yup, i'm aware. they're all repurposed molecules not actually designed for COVID. Hopefully they work better than remdesivir.

Filed a police report and an official complaint with building management. Next step is directly shaming their guests and informing neighbours.

i had a crack ping realizing we are collectively still in the denial stage about covid. desperately convincing ourselves that the vaccines are working and everything will magically end tomorrow.

just wait until we reach the bargaining stage though--it will just be Dr. Fauci solemnly telling Americans that 15% of you aren't going to make it and we are going to accept that fact and give you a great last year, we'll bang pots and pans at 7pm every night to celebrate the people who will be lost to COVID

and fly military aircraft over them, but the aircraft were not armed

Similar results, meanwhile the media has the whining articles about mass resignations despite the real world track record.
