We're not perfect, and we used to have free tertiary education (but that was before my time), but in Australia we get loans from the government. They get paid off as part of your tax. Not making enough money to pay tax? Then you're also not making repayments to the loan. There's no interest either, but there is "indexation" based on cost of living. That's currently 0.6%. Lots of things wrong with this stupid country, but that part is pretty good at least.

I think that tuition in america is also way more expensive than anywhere else. At least I didn't pay poo poo for my bachelors of engineering here in Finland. I think only foreigners need to pay tuition and it's like 4000-18000€ per year or something.

Their Australian office is in Sydney) and my boss was telling me about the educational system over there. You guys have it right, as well as the heavily subsidised lunches for students. Our head office was near LUT campus and so we used to eat at the cafeteria there. €2 for lunch and it was an all you can eat deal. What a way to live as a student! Comparatively I did a double bachelor's in engineering and business then a master of engineering science and my HECS debt (the one the guy above you mentioned) was like $65k AUD

okay so i googled synapsid and am very confused quote:Today, the 5,500 species of living synapsids, known as the mammals, include both aquatic (whales) and flying (bats) species, and the largest animal ever known to have existed (the blue whale). Humans are synapsids, as well. Most mammals are viviparous and give birth to live young rather than laying eggs with the exception being the monotremes. seems like the memes are coming from the synapsids (humans) themselves?

Synapsids dominated in the Permian. Dimetredon was a synapsid. The Great Dying got most of them and left an opening for the dinosaurs and other archosaurs. Only mammals, therocephalids and cynogaths survived. Therocephalids went extinct in the Middle Triassic. Cynogaths survived more or less till the K–T extinction that finally got rid of those pesky dinosaurs, or at least the non‐avian ones. Mammals have been alone for sixty‐six million years.

It's been more responsible for me to pay my student loans for interest avoidance than my credit union credit card.

The University of Iceland requires a "registration fee" of about 600 bucks per year but if you're in a union (almost everyone is) and fill out a few papers the union will repay you anywhere between 25% and 90% of the registration fee depending on the size of the union and what field you're trying to study. A teacher's union will reimburse you more if you're studying something teaching related, or something related to whatever you're teaching, and less for studying something unrelated and so on and so forth But that's the state run university the other private universities cost a lot more and unions pay less of the their tuition back meaning unless you have rich parents you probably need to get a student loan which pays the tuition and provides just about enough money per year to scrape by, assuming you're eating noodles everyday and live in cheap student accommodation or with your parents otherwise it's not enough, if you work alongside school they decrease your money and if you do more then a couple months minimum wage per year they cut you off entirely. Bad by Nordic standards but hey at least it isn't as bad as America.

In California prior to the 1970s there was no tuition for California residents attending a state higher education institution, which includes everything from a city college vocational school to Berkeley or UCLA. From the 70s to the early 90s (thanks, Reagan, you gently caress!) there was tuition, but it was still a pittance. I did the math once and you could indeed pay for a year of college by working a part-time summer job like the boomers are always saying -- 20 hours a week at minimum wage for 3 months would do it. Now of course it's ridiculous; while a California resident will "only" have to pay about 12k a year for Berkeley, that's still a year of full-time minimum wage and that's loving unconscionable. (and an out-of-state student will pay nearly four times as much lmao) It's always been pulling up ladders all along Sagebrush has a new favorite as of 19:53 on Sep 30, 2021 |
