The Jake story that always sticks with me from the start of his time in AEW was that one of the early pandemic shows was the same week as his 65th birthday, and backstage they'd got him a cake and did a party for him backstage. And no company had ever done that for him before. He had been in the business for forty five years at that point, worked for every company imaginable, been part of huge main events. And nobody had ever got him a cake.

Cody walked back his union support super fast once he got a role in management. All wrestlers contracted in dual roles get health insurance and that's more than you'd expect (people like Thunder Rosa and Shawn Dean also have backstage roles for example) but in-ring only talent is still left to sort their own out
