Have there been any UHDs with multiple versions yet? IE an improved version of an existing UHD?

I think there may have been some German or Italian UHDs for Suspiria or Dawn of the Dead or something that have since been surpassed with newer transfers. Pretty sure those old ones were old Blu-Ray era transfers tossed onto UHD discs. One title that needs another shot though is Terminator 2. Maybe once Cameron is done loving around on Pandora he’ll go through his works and give them some love.

At this point I think I'd rather they just move on and give me a UHD of Terminator or even better, The Abyss. Also True Lies.

I’ve just come to accept he doesn’t really care about his old movies. Reissuing the same lame duck T2 disc is more than enough evidence for me.

Oh drat, never saw that. I have the sweet Synapse (?) Steelbook that contained the 4K transfer on blu-ray and then the actual 4K release.

Is there an affordable and reliable introductory UHD player? The cheapest Panasonic that fits what I'm looking for has a lot of people saying it's unreliable junk, and a lot of players are still surprisingly expensive. All I need is disc play (no streaming) with HDR10/10+ (my tv doesn't do Dolby Vision).

since you dont have DV you wont need to worry about the weird issue with this that you need to flip a switch in the menu to get it to work and turn it off before you put in content without DV. I've seen it dip to $150 at its lowest price during BF.

Speaking as an owner of a 700, I would not recommend the inexpensive Sony players. It’s not just the DV issue, they are also notorious for locking up on discs. I’ve had this happens 4-5 times. There was a recent-ish firmware release that might have helped with this but it’s probably too early to tell.

Amazing, I had no idea. Just like, the laser/transport parts are lovely or the software?

I've not heard anything about this before but I also haven't got a UHD player yet either.

I imagine it’s some of both. The tolerances for the laser are way tighter because data is packed so close, but I’m pretty sure the Sony woes are software.

I only ever read issue after issue with UHD players and the 700 has maybe locked up a handful of times over the course of my ownership. I feel like it’s still a deal for what it offers and the price range is tough to beat.

It’s this. I’ve had the occasional issues, although some discs just have some minor scratches (RIP Casino + F5). I also don’t see upgrading because the possible performance benefits aren’t really there. I don’t need more outputs or anything. Lord knows I have no bumps during my seasons of TV shows on BD.

Also, treated myself to some movies at my local BBY to take advantage of a deal. They had the 4K of Halloween II, so why not… great package! The slipcase is real nice. I may honestly pick up Halloween just to match it.

I had a lot more issues with my 700 when I first bought it like 3 years ago. These days I think the updates they've done have eliminated most of that, I actually can't remember the last time it locked up. It's probably been like 6 months or maybe more, and there are a few discs I knew had playback issues previously that I've watched this year and they played perfectly this time.

Sorry I'm late
Not that its remotely easy to get one, my PS5 has been great for UHD playback. I also have an Xbox Series X that I think can play them too but I haven't actually tried it.

I've almost doubled my UHD collection in the past week by getting the 4K Matrix set and the Cornetto Trilogy last week.

I've used this before for this type of scenario and I don't believe there was a cost associated with it but you can use Privacy.com/Privacy app as well which generates fake credit cards and addresses tied to your actual card, and you can put limits on the card or one-time use etc.

Those Visa gift cards have a five or six dollar activation fee. So all said and done you'd be paying about 40 bucks for Turkish Star Wars if even get anything at all.

I can't imagine it's possible to legally distribute that film. I assumed the month is because that's a short enough time to get away with a smash-and-grab and not draw too much attention to yourself with your bootleg scan.

It's probably this kind of thing. If it's small enough or over and done with quickly Disney probably won't even think it's worth their time. Plus that guy who did all the despecialized versions of Star Wars has been selling bootleg blu-rays for ages and hasn't been sued into oblivion. I'm not sure how that works but he has some disclaimer on his website that says something like "These are for people who already bought and paid for official copies of Star Wars.". I think in some cases they find it easier to just not call attention to whatever the thing is and honestly, how many people are going to know about or buy a bootleg copy of Turkish Star Wars?

I mean it's called Turkish Star Wars often but is it really any more in violation than, say, Battle Beyond the Stars or Message From Space? I'm not sure what makes Disney/Lucasfilm more likely to pounce on this.

Turkish Star Wars uses actual Star Wars footage and I think some film score too. And a bit of the Indiana Jones score if I recall correctly. It's not simply a knockoff.
