Didn't the show get renewed for literally 100 episodes a few years back? I remember people talking about it on the adult swim streams at one point. Doesn't this show have a season every few years? We will never see the end of it or the Simpsons in our lifetimes.

7 seasons of 8 episodes each. IIRC that was after Season 3, so they've got 5 more to go

I never got super into it but remembered liking it back in the day. I watched a little recently and it just came off as very cringey gen-x cynicism to me.

I hate you for reminding me about that cliffhanger. I know the overarching story wasn't really the point of the show, and pretending it actually had one was kind of a joke in itself, but that show helped keep my cynicism strong. I'm afraid to revisit it because it probably aged terribly

another cartoon that's fun: Teen Titans Go!

in some ways an empty and loud kids' cartoon, but they do a lot of making fun of the people who hate it because they enjoyed the previous more serious TT. also they have plots driven by things like the fact that Nixon ended the US gold standard and the leprechauns are still unhappy about that.

also, in a few eps, Batman and Gordon are basically little kids who want to watch cartoons during sleepovers, but mean old Alfred won't let them.

it's incredibly stupid. you'll know pretty quickly if it's a kind of stupid you'll enjoy.

Ooh, seconding this and Gumball for top tier kids' shows. Anytime I went into one producer's office, he'd have Gumball on and just be like, "Look how good this is! How is it so good?!"

I actually just started watching this from the start on Netflix; I already knew what it was about since I'd caught a few episodes on Cartoon Network here and there. You're right, it's a good timewaster, and I like the animation.

It really is. That solar system song that's all "nothing matters, you and every other human are insignificant" was amazing, I couldn't believe they put that in a kid's show lol

Last night we watched the first episode of a new 'adult animation' show called The Harper House. It was aggressively unfunny. Never laughed. Ever. Not a giggle, not a chuckle, not a tee-hee.. never went 'Ha!'

Does anyone watch those other new Fox shows? There's that Great North one, the one with the animals, and the one with the rednecks. I can't remember their names. They all suck.

Great North isn't really funny but at least it has the Bob's Burgers-like thing of all the characters being likable and the vibe being pleasant and positive. Harper House doesn't even have that.

I love Rick and Morty. I love the Simpsons. Family guy can be funny sometimes(the way he nailed how people have actual conversations in later seasons), American Dad is GREAT too!!

Rick IS a giant rear end in a top hat and the later episodes of season 4 brought to the surface what was bubbling: Even if he is a perfect Mary Sue that can do anything, he cant seem to change while the other characters (Jerry) Grow into something else.

Idk , I laugh at all kinds of stupid poo poo , like Rick chastising everybody for being on their phone/iPads instead of celebrating Christmas.

Pretty sure the last one you’re talking about is maybe Bless the Harts? I saw maybe three episodes and it just didn’t do it for me.

It’s also been canceled after only two seasons. Did a lot better than Sit Down, Shut Up, Napoleon Dynamite, Allen Gregory, and Bordertown, I guess.

I know, right? And Sit Down, Shut Up was a remake of a 13 episode Australian sitcom from 2001 that aired in 2009. Fox coming in hot with the current trends eight years later.

also good but I haven't watched as much: Clarence. it does a good job of feeling like real raw childhood experiences but it never gets edgy or dark.

side note: the creator was a harassing piece of poo poo who got fired even before #metoo, but other people involved in the cartoon said that he contributed absolutely no writing (despite being in the credits) and not to let his idiocy stop the audience from enjoying it

yes! that's a good one.

there's another that's done in 20s-style rubber-hose animation, complete with the type of sight gags you'd see in that kind of cartoon, and at the very end it cuts to the regular animation to show the aftermath.

the writing and animation are both really strong overall

its interesting to see how the average goon's tastes for edgy animated adult cartoons has pivoted so much. is it just a natural shift in taste as we're all growing older, or has the intense politicization of everything on the internet put us more on-guard with what kinds of jokes and ideas we allow ourselves to be exposed to?

It's hard to be edgy in any interesting way when you have to compete with the internet.

Yeah that was a problem with F is for Family. Started out with interesting premise of being set in the 70s rust belt with decent dark humor. Then threw that away for generic sitcom plots, nudity that was more gross than funny, and gay jokes that would have been lazy on Friends.
