It's definitely messaging, but this messaging is mostly aimed at two things: the television/film industry, and foreigners trying to get stuff published in china. and the overlap of those two things ofc. mihoyo's designed their game around the chinese government's playtime regulations and never once made a peep, they've gained a lot of leeway. they're also an extremely successful chinese games company. they dont really care if some game they're making on the side that is way less successful has a couple lesbian kisses in it, and they can get away with plenty of subtext and bishonen dudes in genshin. if patch 2.2 adds a 73 minute zhongli x xiao gently caress scene, sure, there might be issues, but the game as it is won't be affected in the slighest.

I finally got peer pressured into playing this by friends, it's pretty cool. I got Mona from the starter gacha, what's up with her dash? Off the top of my head she moves a little faster than a normal dash, she can dash across water, and she doesn't have a dodge cap like most characters.

Ever since they buffed the special dashes it also has a very generous startup and invincibility properties. I've definitely skated though things I had no right to dodge with Mona.

Now all the Geo characters have something that goes great with their outfits since the Liyue orange doesn't really work as well.
