What does a rice cooker do that a pan doesn't? Measure rice/water, gently cook until done doesn't seem like it needs specialist equipment.

What does a toaster do that a grill doesn't when it comes to toasting bread? The answer is convenience.

Already in this thread you have had multiple posters talk about preferred ratios of rice to water and cooking times.

A rice cooker has none of that.
You put in the amount of rice and water it says and press go.
You don't have to watch it and wait for it to be done cooking and take it off the heat or anything like that. They have timers that say when they are done.

In fact with advanced models, they automatically switch off when the rice is finished cooking, so the rice doesn't get burnt.

The Yum Asia models even have a feature so it keeps the rice warm even after it's finished cooking.

Some of them are non stick so you don't have to worry about cleaning burnt on rice.
Some use ceramic bowls do there is almost no cleaning up afterwards.

The advanced rice cookers can even cook the rice in different ways. (Between long grain and short grain, Sweet rice, white rice and brown rice.) They can unlock flavours in brown rice (Gabba) as it cooks.

Oh and they have timers, so you could set the rice cooker up in the morning to switch on after 8 hours so it is cooked when you come home from work.

Basically they are a really useful piece of kit and I think anyone who eats rice should have one in their kitchen. Just like how everyone should have airfryers.

(Screenshot because I get the feeling this is getting deleted on Monday morning)

Some startup doing the normal thing of "What if existing thing but with an app and not following any rules" with banking tells a customer that they're unable to help them with an enquiry - except the enquiry is "We need a letter proving that we use you as a bank otherwise they're going to deport my husband". What a perfect confluence of two of the bigger evils of modern Britain - an immigration policy that is of course designed to be as convoluted and difficult to navigate as possible throwing up what is no doubt the 50th attempt at a Columbo-esque "Oh just one more thing" at a couple just trying to get on with their lives meets a bunch of trustafarians playing at being bankers just like Daddy until Softbank comes along and gives them more money than God.

Now the person who actually typed this tweet is probably some poor underpaid "social media manager" in Newcastle or something, and it's not 100% clear if this is actually the problem or not - i.e. it's entirely possible the person running the Twitter account has no actual ability to get this done even if it is something the company itself it can do - but that's not the problem, the problem is that when confronted with this they put that little loving waving hand emoji in the response telling someone "Soz about your family". Some oval office wearing Eric Sykes glasses no doubt trousered £200k to come up with a brand style guide that included the words "human" and "friendly" and maybe even "playful" that said minimum-wage worker has to abide to or it's back on the dole for them.

Somehow this has really, really got to me - god knows there's enough evil poo poo going on in the world but that loving emoji has broken me. gently caress everything about this diseased loving society.

Nandy is admittedly much more of a stretch but she's been consistently one of the very bluest of blue Labour, maybe she thinks she can rein in the extreme wing of the Tories some

She was trying to purge the left way before it was cool and attempting the kind of insane rules-lawyering bullshit you can only get in local politics.

it kinda feels like the backlash she's getting is getting larger and harder to ignore whenever she opens her mouth and shits her awful opinions everywhere, but that might just be confirmation bias on my part

the only people who are going to jump are some sort of incredibly egotistical "they vote for me not for the party" morons so it kind of has to be someone at least vaguely well-known

Reasonable belief that keith might be a sincere labour member was done pretty early in his leadership, but "controlled" is the wrong word for someone who was effectively mi5s boss after a long career that started when he sold his soul during mclibel

Have you been watching the BBC this week? The company line is that's he great, this is a "real turning point in labours ambitions", voters in the norf with accents love him, but others say he should kill Angela rayner, and some antisemites are upset that he's just so successful and powerful and sexy

He's been around real power previously. Calling him an asset would be like calling Shah Rory an asset - at some point you're a company man making your own decisions, and the fact those decisions are in total agreement with everyone else in power is just the intended consequence of how the agencies have worked, ever since they were set up by brave communist heroes to make the British irrelevant.

E; on that note everyone should watch the company documentary on comrade Kim, it's so incredibly bitter. I was almost crying with laughter as our hero prepared to send the Albanian terrorists to their deaths and the jaws theme started playing

The English are not uniquely xenophobic.
